Susan here… I’m no athlete, but I’ve now got something in common with many of them.
Before I explain, I have to say that when the chance to review SpiderTech athletic sports tape came in, I jumped on it. This is powerful stuff and I’m excited to share it with you. I was sent a sample of the tape and compensated for my time to write this post, but my enthusiasm is all my own.
I’m using SpiderTech Kinesiology Tape.
I’d seen posters in my chiropractor’s office for these hot pink and bright blue strips of tape on ripped athletes and wondered what it was all about. But I didn’t ask.
I assumed it wouldn’t apply to me… a 40 year old, out of shape mother who spends far too long on a laptop and far too little time in a gym.
But when the folks at SpiderTech reached out for us to review their products, I was thrilled. I have struggled all my life with severe knee pain from Patellofemoral syndrome (PFS) that has made it impossible for me to run or use any type of stair climbing machine.
Whenever I see women taking boot camp classes or even out jogging, I’ve felt jealous and inferior.
I’ve worn orthotics since I was 15 and seen a physio in my early twenties, but for most of my adult life I’ve just accepted that power walking was my limit.
There are no easy fixes for my knees and I won’t be sprinting up hills anytime soon… but I finally feel like I have some hope.
For the last few weeks, I’ve been testing out SpiderTech Tape and I can definitely feel a difference in my knees. It’s not like the tape will instantly cure my patellofemoral pain, but it’s become an important tool in helping me manage my knee pain so that I can get the exercise I need.
So What Exactly Is SpiderTech Tape?
SpiderTech is a non-medicated, pre-cut cotton kinesiology tape that you apply to your body wherever you are experiencing pain.
Their website has an extensive education section so you can learn exactly how it works.
I love how simple this elastic therapeutic tape is to apply and that once applied to your body, the tape lasts for 5 days. Finding out about SpiderTech athletic sports tape is a big step towards me reaching new fitness levels.

I cannot find this at Wal-Mart in Aurora Ontario Canada. Luckily the hospital sold me a package. Hope Wal-Mart Canada does start to carry the different styles. Ps. I have found it very helpful.

Thanks for the review, Susan. I’ve got bad knees as well and this has me intrigued. I’ll have to give them a go.

I have always wondered about these tapes also. My question is how much do they cost? And how many or how much do you get for the price? Can you buy it at Target/Walmart?
Love all your 5 minute tips. From a very busy mom!!!
Thanks!!!

Great question Tami!
SpiderTech X Spiders are my personal favorite and can be applied anywhere it hurts. I also tried and really liked the upper knee spider, but I think going forward I will most often wear the X Spiders on the sides of my knees for my patellofemoral pain. (Like the girl in the photo in this post.)
The X Spiders come in 6 or 20 packs. The 6 packs are $9.99 and the 20 packs are $29.99. Each X Spider lasts for up to 5 days and are totally waterproof so you can wear them in the shower/bath. (I even wore it swimming.)
You can find them at GNC, Select Vitamin Shoppe’s and Vitamin World locations in the US or online from SpiderTech.com. Many retailers in Canada carry it too.
To find a retailer/therapist near worldwide you can use their store locator feature: http://www.spidertech.com/ustorelocator/location/map/
