Our youngest son is 11. When he was five years old, he began having seizures. They were somewhat sporadic and mostly occurred while he was sleeping. He saw a neurologist and had several tests – all of which were normal. We were told that it’s not that uncommon for childhood seizures to happen and we never find a reason why. It’s something that many kids in that situation outgrow. Our son started taking medication, which thankfully controls his seizures. We are very hopeful that he will, indeed, outgrow this condition.
Seizures are such a scary thing to witness, especially when it’s your own child. While we feel comfortable that the medication he takes controls the seizures, it’s still always in the back of our minds. It’s especially something I think about whenever we are out and about. Traveling on the road or in a public place…if something were to happen, I always want to know that I have a quick way of seeking help if needed. I recently learned about an emergency app called Medlert 911+. It’s something that could be very useful to us and give me peace of mind regarding any emergency situation that may arise.
Medlert 911+is an app for you to use during emergency situations. After you have installed and set up the app, you can install a 1-touch emergency button. It shows up as a red button on your phone’s home screen. In the event of an emergency, simply press the red button. All of the people you have listed as emergency contacts (family, friends, 911, doctor, etc.) are then immediately notified of your location and that you are in an emergency. If they have the app, they receive a notification. If they do not have the app, they receive a text message. Once your emergency contacts have received your notification, you can call any of them that you choose with the click of a button. You can also call 911 from any screen of the app. If you accidentally hit the Medlert 911+ button by mistake, you have 5 seconds to cancel. A 5-second countdown is displayed on your screen letting you know you have the option to cancel. This app is perfect for families, travelers, teenagers, or just about anyone. Medlert 911+ saves precious time during an emergency. By notifying everyone on your list simultaneously, you don’t waste time deciding who to call first. Your location information is automatically given to your contacts; this could be very helpful in case you are unable to provide that information yourself. It could literally be the difference between life and death.Medlert 911+ is available in the App Store. For a limited time you can get the app for free (reg. price is $1.99). Look for it soon in the Android Market.
