Spend Christmas watching Sasha Cohen, Brian Boitano, Todd Eldredge, Yuka Sato, Michael Weiss, and more figure skating superstars perform with The Cleveland Pops Orchestra and singing legend Peter Cetera.
And then come back here, to 5 Minutes for Mom and enter to win one of five gift baskets packed with Smucker’s goods as well as autographed items from the ice skaters and musical guest Peter Cetera from the band Chicago.
Somewhere between the morning madness of flying wrapping paper and the over-indulgence of turkey dinner, there’s often a lull in the Christmas day festivities.
But this year, as children play with new toys, husbands check warranties, and turkeys roast, moms like me will be enjoying a Christmas present of our own – “Smucker’s presents Hot Ice, Cool Sounds,” – an incredible performance of Olympic and world-class figure skating superstars such as Sasha Cohen, Brian Boitano, and, Jamie Sale and David Pelletier, accompanied by singing legend Peter Cetera and The Cleveland Pops Orchestra.
And you can be one of us moms with our feet up enjoying this rare treat. Your family will likely love to see you take a break and enjoy your day.
Even if you have to dash back to the kitchen between numbers to baste your turkey, (or perhaps you are lucky enough to have a TV in your kitchen!) this magical musical performance will be great family friendly viewing to keep everyone entertained on Christmas afternoon.
Hot Ice, Cool Sounds, presented by Smucker’s, is running on Christmas Day on NBC from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Smucker’s supports several ice skating programs, including “Stars on Ice,” which starts its national tour in January. (BTW — at the Smucker’s site, you can enter to win tickets to an all-expense paid trip to a city to see “Stars on Ice” in 2009.)
I love watching figure skating. One of my favorite ways to spend time with my Mom, (who was a figure skater herself,) is watching figure skating events together. Every time a skater takes us off for a jump, goes into a spin or stretches into a spiral, I can feel her body tense as she relives her past.
Whether we are watching on TV or attending live events like the World Championships or Stars on Ice, sharing our love of figure skating is one of the special bonds between me and my Mom. (My mom and I used to go to Stars on Ice every year back before I had babies to put to bed at night!)
So, I know without a doubt, as we relax on Christmas afternoon, we will have the TV tuned to NBC to catch the unforgettable Hot Ice, Cool Sounds.
My mom and I will ooh and aww over Olympic silver medalist Sasha Cohen’s impossibly perfect spiral (seriously — her spiral is just gorgeous!) and of course as Canadians we will be making sure we don’t miss Olympic pairs champions Jamie Sale and David Pelletier, (yes, they ROCK and they are Canadian!)
But, if you’re too busy peeling potatoes and mashing yams between 3 to 5pm, no worries! Just set your TIVO (or, for people like me, slide a tape into the old VCR) and indulge once your guests have said goodbye and your tots have given in to exhaustion. It will be the perfect way to unwind as you sip some eggnog and nibble on one more piece of pumpkin pie.
But just make sure you come back to your computer and email your answers in to our trivia questions for a chance to win one of five fabulous gift baskets.

Hello, Yes I used Skype i time when my daughter in law came to visit. I talked to my son (Charles) in Iraq. Charles is stationed just north of Bagdad in the US Army. He will be coming home in March. I would call Charles first, it would be great to see and talk to him.
Thanks,
Patrick

Hey there,
Didnt know that you were so cool. Love your blog and your way of writing.
PS: I have initiated an idea to create a fashion and style blogroll where bloggers from the jewelry, fashion, style and beauty could participate.
All you need to do is to add my blog link to your blog and i’ll do the same.
That way, we could have a mutual partnership and we could refer visitors to each other’s blog.
Please let me know if you would be interested.
Thanks!

Janice I love you even more knowing that like me, you have to slide a tape into the VCR. I didn’t know that there were other cool girls like me who still did that!
