5 Minutes for Books — The Dead Whisper On

One day Canada MacHugh begins hearing the voice of her dead father. He enlists her to be part of an agency of shadows. When she joins in, both she and they are surprised at the results. Things aren’t what they seem, but Canada helps unravel the truth while also saving the people from her hometown of Butte Montana who have been mysteriously combusting.

The Dead Whisper On by T. L. Hines surprised me. After all, it’s not every day that you read a Christian horror novel. T. L. Hines accurately describes his writing as “noir bizarre” fiction. He seemed to read my mind as I began to question what this type of storyline was doing in Christian fiction. He explained by saying,

I also realize, this being a thriller that is going to be read by a lot of Christians, that some people may be a bit uncomfortable with the subject matter. I’m well aware that the Bible tells us not to attempt communication with the dead, so let me assure you that there’s nothing in this book that encourages such behavior. Canada has to dig through a lot of layers to discover exactly what’s going on.

And dig she does. As she uncovers layer after layer, the reader is pulled along with her as things that seem impossible begin to make sense.

dead-whisper-on.jpgYou can preview a video teaser for the book and read an excerpt at the Bethany House website. Deadwhisperon is a website with a clever twist, where you can also download a catchy song “Hope Killed the Shadows” by Pivitplex that was written in conjunction with the book.

If you like supernatural thrillers or horror or suspense novels and welcome a book devoid of crude speech and vivid scenes of violence, I urge you to give this book a try.

The publisher is giving away one copy to a reader in the U.S. or Canada, so please leave a comment if you’d like to win.
