Tonya here… Halloween is quickly approaching and if you’ve left costumes until the last minute, like me, then this easy unicorn costume is sure to be a hit with your girls. Thank you to Testors.com for sponsoring this post. All opinions are my own.
You might remember the fun airbrushed shirt my daughter and I made recently. Well, seeing as we had the paint and airbrush on hand, we decided to put it to good use for her Halloween costume too.
This costume requires just a few basic items, a couple of easy DIY’s, and can be customized to any color you want.
What you need (the basics):
- Plain white tutu
- Plain top
- Leggings
- Vest (optional)
(for the DIY):
- AirBrainz™ airbrush line from Testors®
- Headband
- Foam or cardboard cone
- Felt: white and silver
- Silver rope or thin ribbon
- Hot glue gun
- Tulle – cut into 4 strips approximately 2 inches wide and 5 inches long
Marisol wanted her costume to be mostly white, but to brighten it up a little we simply airbrushed her tutu, and small pieces of tulle to match to wrap around the headband by the unicorn horn.
Start by airbrushing the tutu, because this will take the longest to dry. While airbrushing each color on the tutu, also spray a strip of tulle too.
Make sure to clean the airbrush components properly before changing colors.
Set the tutu and tulle aside to dry and start working on the headband.
Begin by wrapping the white felt around the cone. You can hot glue it in place, I used a needle and thread to sew it. Use hot glue to attach it to the center of the headband.
Fold over the scraps of white felt that are left and cut out two matching ears, make sure there is a center strip to wrap around the headband, and then hot glue each ear into place. Cut out a smaller ear using the silver felt and hot glue that into the center of the white.
Hot glue the silver rope at the top of the unicorn horn and wrap it around until you get to the base, and then glue that into place too.
Now, once the strips of tulle you painted are dry tie two pieces between each ear and horn.
And there you have it, one semi-handmade unicorn costume for Halloween.
