How To Stop Summer Slide with #TenMarks Math (It's FREE)

The dreaded Summer Slide. I think it crosses all parents minds at one point or another during their child’s school-age years. I know for me, with one child that struggles a bit with a certain subject, I do worry about said child losing any of the progress they’ve worked so hard for the whole school year.

It’s hard as a parent to see your child struggle, but it’s rewarding to see your child work hard and overcome the struggles… and you don’t want them to loose any of that progress over the Summer.

For me it’s really easy to make great plans of all these fun and educational activities to help them to retain what they’ve learned, but those plans often get pushed to the back burner.

Did you know that research shows that students lose 2-3 months of grade level math equivalency over the summer? This of course then impacts their readiness for the next school year.

TenMarks is an educational program by Amazon that’s designed to be fun and entertaining and keep your child from losing the Math skills that they have learned. TenMarks won the 2015 CODiE Award for Best Math Instructional Solution. The program is personalized & tuned for each child’s individual learning needs, based on a summative end of year assessment.

My kids and I browsed & played on the TenMarks website & app. I thought the site was very well laid out, it’s very easy to navigate and the kids thought it was a lot of fun to play. Especially my child that loves math anyway! And since there are apps available from the Apple Store and the Amazon App Store it’s a great way to keep the kids from being bored in the car or at Dr. appointments, etc.

How It Works

First you create a parent account and then add your children selecting the grade each child will be going into the next school year and the school district.

You as a parent can then create custom rewards and your child can complete assignments to redeem those rewards.

Children also have the flexibility to choose the assignments they want to do and they can see their points and how many more assignments they need to complete to redeem a reward.

Parents can also view a child’s report card to see any areas the child might be struggling with and where their strengths lie.

Overall in clicking around the TenMarks website and watching my children play I think that this is a great program to help prevent the Summer Slide… and it’s tons of fun for the kids, which is really what matters right?
