Why You Should Drink Alkaline Water

I am obsessed with drinking water — all.day.long. You will never see me leave my house without a bottle of water in my hand. At home, there is usually a “Hansel and Gretel” trail of empty water glasses revealing where I have been that day.

So it was serendipity when, after flying standby due to a canceled flight, I ended up sitting next to Yvonne Anderson, founder of Santevia Water Systems. Yvonne and I got to chatting and I learned about the incredible benefits of alkaline water and creating a pH balance in our bodies.

Why You Should Drink Alkaline WaterRight there, on that plane, I told Yvonne I couldn’t wait to tell you all about Santevia and alkaline water. She even gave me the very water bottle and alkaline filter stick she was using. And I have been drinking alkaline water ever since!

Now, when you see me with a bottle of water, you will see an alkaline stick filter in that bottle.

Why Should I Drink Alkaline Water?

All chemical processes have an ideal pH at which they are most efficient between 0-14. An acid pH is below 7, 7 is neutral and above 7 is alkaline. The human body functions best with an internal chemistry being slightly alkaline – a pH of 7.0 to 8.0. Your blood must maintain a pH of 7.4. If the blood pH falls below 7.2, you die. Cells die at about 3.5 pH and are in disease when below 7.0.

0<————Acid————>7<–7.4——-Alkaline———->14

7 = Neutral 7.4 = Blood pH

Your body does not manufacture alkaline but, in fact, produces acid as a by-product of normal metabolism. Considering this, plus many other factors like stress that contribute to an acid pH, is why you must supply a higher amount of alkaline from food and water sources to keep a healthy balance.

Alkaline or acid produced by the body must have an equal and opposite acid or alkaline produced by the body; therefore, there is no net gain. However, alkaline supplied from outside the body, like drinking alkaline water, results in a net gain of alkalinity in our body.

Did You Know?

  • Most of the disease that plague people in the West could not occur in a pH balanced body.
  • The rate at which you age is determined by how acidic your blood is. Graying hair and wrinkling and sagging skin are all worsened by acid in your body.
  • The reason cholesterol levels soar is to repair the damage caused to arteries by acidic blood, which scours your arterial walls like an SOS pad.
  • Cancer cells require acidity to survive. That’s right: they thrive in an acid environment but are unable to survive in an alkaline one.
  • Most people would experience significantly less pain if their pH was balanced. That includes those who suffer from serious disorders such as arthritis and fibromyalgia.

How Can I Get More Alkaline in My Body?

Hydration is critical to our health. In fact, we should be taking in 8-10 glasses of water every day, and even more if you are a soda or coffee drinker! It takes 32 glasses of 7.0 water to neutralize 1 glass of soda! Santevia Water Systems want to help us achieve the right amount of alkaline in our bodies so that we can feel better, look better, and physically be healthier.

Eat More Alkalined Foods

Too many times we graze on foods that are very acidic. The above photo shows you the foods that are higher in alkaline that you should eat to help balance your body out.

Drink More Alkaline Water

By keeping alkaline ready water on hand, you are more likely to drink it instead of going for the soda, coffee, and other types of drinks available.

Disclosure: We are working with Santevia to share about how important it is for us to drink alkaline water so that we can stay healthy. All opinions listed are our own.

Please Note: We are NOT health professionals and are not making any health claims. We are simply sharing our opinions and what we have learned about balancing our bodies’ pH levels. If you have any questions about your health, please talk to your doctor.

    I used to hate drinking water then I became diabetic, and now I love drinking water. It’s critical to how I feel that I drink lots of water every day. I didn’t know about alkaline vs. acid in water and foods. I’d love to win this!

    We filter our water because it’s so “hard” it tastes gross… so I wonder if this helps with our alkalinity already… since hard water usually has a higher percentage of alkaline materials. I’d still be interested in the pitcher.

    Not being a downer, but what scientific research shows that this is true? Sounds like just another “miracle cure” to me. With no peer-reviewed studies, I’m very skeptical of these kinds of claims.

      There is a great deal of scientific research that shows the benefits of an Alkaline Diet and Alkaline Water. Check out a book called, The Ultimate pH Solution by Michelle Cook. (Amazon) She compiles much of the research in an easy to read book for non scientists but also cites all the studies in the back. Good luck on your journey to excellent health. That’s interesting since actual scientists have debunked this myth.

          Throughout history learned scientists have had opposing views on many topics. New emerging science is often criticised before becoming mainstream. I always say the BIG 3 things we need to do to stay healthy is EAT well – whole foods, DRINK lots of good water every day and EXERCISE regularly. I would also add to that – laugh alot! Enjoy the journey! Yvonne Anderson, CEO Santevia Water Systems

    It is smart to test the alkaline level of different waters with the stick. We tried some Kangen water for 4 weeks, and within 1 day of drinking it my boys were vomiting profusely. Turns out that the alkaline level was too high for their little systems, and it does take some time to get used to. I read online that this is very common, and many people have side effects. Just an FYI for those looking into alkaline water. I know it has it’s benefits, but we stopped using it because of all the side effects.
