5 Minutes for Books: All in the Family

When I was a child, my favorite holiday of the entire year was Thanksgiving. From the food to the parade to the family gathering, everything was predictable and wonderful, each in its own way. My mother is one of seven children, and holidays always saw a large group of adults sitting in one room, with the slew of cousins relegated to the card tables set up in another. The laughter would fly between the rooms (along with the occasional dinner roll… many cousins were naughty children!), and the same funny stories would be shared. (My personal favorite involved a game of corn-kernel-tossing into my grandfather’s mouth as he lay asleep in a recliner– it was like playing beat the clock before his top dentures fell and blocked the opening!)

It’s in this spirit that the folks at Chicken Soup for the Soul bring you their latest offering: All in the Family: 101 Incredible Stories about our Funny, Quirky, Lovable & “Dysfunctional” Families. Just in time for Thanksgiving, it’s always reassuring to read about the FUN in other families’ dysfunction as you prepare to gather your loved ones around for a yearly dose of some holiday wackiness. Whether you’re reading it on your own or sharing stories aloud with your own crazy crew, the entries in this latest Chicken Soup release will ring familiar and provide a healthy serving of laughter, as well.

Do you want to share in the family fun? A copy of All in the Family: 101 Incredible Stories about our Funny, Quirky, Lovable & “Dysfunctional” Families is waiting for three lucky winners! Please leave a comment to enter. We’ll announce the winner in next week’s column.

The winners of America’s White Table are #10 Cathy, #3 Katy, #23 Juli

I hesitate to enter this, but yes we are a slightly dysfunctional but trying to change our spots type of family. Did not realize until recently that I could change my ways. Once mom changes the kids have no choice but to change!
