A great morning and bedtime routine helps kick start your day and also helps you get a good night’s rest. Thanks to Philips for sending me a Wake-Up Light to review, all opinions are my own.
My morning and bedtime routines go a long way to keeping me sane. Whether it’s hitting the snooze button a few too many times, or the kids getting up early, disruptions to my morning routine makes me feel like I’m playing catch up the rest of the day.
My morning starts well before my kids get up. I tend to be a bit grumpy when I first wake up no matter what time it is, and having to talk to other human beings is not advised for me until I’ve been up for at least 30 minutes. I wake up about an hour before my kids get up and around so that I can be fully awake when they are. When mom is her best in the morning, the kids are much less likely to have a melt down.
My current morning routine:
- Wake up around 5:30, drink a glass of lemon water, brew coffee
- Wash my face, brush my teeth, take my medicines
- Prayer/devotional time
- Morning computer tasks
- Wake up the kids for school
From there it’s the typical school-mom morning– getting the kids up and ready, packing lunches, and taking the kids to school.
Starting our evening/bedtime routine is what helps my kids start to wind down, although they do still try the “I’m thirsty!” delay each and every night. It’s as much a part of the bedtime routine as hugs and kisses. It would be odd if they weren’t thirsty!
Our current bedtime routine:
- Bath, pjs, brush teeth
- Mom reads aloud
- Prayers
- Drink of water
- Hugs and kisses and tucked in
- Lights out
My kids share a room, and they both like a small light to be on as they fall asleep, but I usually turn it off once they are out because they sleep better when the room is dark.
Philips offered to send me a Philips Wake-up Light to review for 30 days. I was quite excited and eagerly said yes. I’ve been using the light for almost two weeks now and I don’t see myself ever stopping! I will probably be getting one for my kids too!
Why choose the Philips Wake-up Light?
In nature, day starts when the sun comes up, but with our busy lives and depending on our jobs, waking up to an alarm when it’s dark outside can be hard. It’s so easy to keep hitting the snooze button or sleep right through the alarm.
The Philips Wake-up Light is inspired by nature’s sunrise- it uses a unique combination of light and sound to help you wake up in a more natural way. When you feel more refreshed it’s easier to get out of bed.
The Philips Wake-up Light gradually increases from a soft dawn red to warm orange, to a bright and happy sunshine yellow 30 minutes before your set wake-up time. This helps to signal your body from sleep to waking naturally.
You can choose from five different natural sounds or your favourite radio station to sound at your chosen alarm time. Since light sensitivity is different for everyone, the Wake-up Light has 20 brightness settings.
Other great features:
- LED technology
- Tap to snooze feature
- Dimming light and sound to send you gently off to sleep
The Philips Wake-up Light is available at London Drugs, Centre du Rasoir, Jean Coutu, Amazon.ca and Walmart.ca
