Instructions
Place sugar and butter in large bowl and beat at medium speed until well blended.
Add eggs, syrup and vanilla and beat until fluffy.
Combine 3 cups flour, baking soda, baking powder and salt in a medium bowl and mix thoroughly with a whisk, then gradually add to the butter mixer and beat at a low speed just until well blended.
Divide dough into four equal balls and place each on plastic wrap, adding in 1/2 tbsp colored sprinkles to each ball and fold gently until sugar is mixed into dough. Wrap dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
Sprinkle flour on a large sheet of waxed paper or parchment paper. Working with one ball of dough at a time, place dough on floured surface and roll to 1/4 inch thickness with a rolling pin.
Cut dough into shapes with a cookie cutter, or use the mouth of a small glass to cut dough into shapes. If dough becomes too sticky, place back in the refrigerator for 30 minutes or until firm.
Place cut dough 2 inches apart on an ungreased cookie sheet and sprinkle with a pinch of red and green sugar sprinkles.
Bake for 8 minutes at 375 degrees for softer cookies, 10 minutes for crisper cookies.
