Does the Stomach Flu Count?
My only tackle is that we have survived.
My pregnancy nausea has been brutal this past week. I have barely been able to get anything accomplished (nor get much food in.) I am not sure if you noticed, but I didn’t make it out for any blog visiting – not even your tackles! I am so incredibly sorry, but writing posts, answering emails, etc was all I could manage before crawling back to my bed. (I am even behind on getting up the party prize listings – I have a dozen or so still to go.) I am pretty much useless right now.
Then Friday I heard that the stomach flu was ravaging Jackson’s preschool. As I am sure you can imagine, I was more than a little concerned. I was barely holding it together as it was. Add the stomach flu to the mix, and I really didn’t know how I would cope.
Saturday night (well Sunday morning really) Jackson started throwing up. I was up with him all night and finally went to bed myself at 7am. Mercifully it was Sunday, so my husband was home to let me get some sleep.
The good news is that, so far, I haven’t got the flu. I am just miserable with my nausea and tiredness, but I don’t think I have the virus. Today I let Jackson watch hours of TV and movies while I lay on the couch. (Yes, stellar parenting – but what can you do?) He bounced around like Tigger – back to his normal, happy self. I wish I could say the same for myself. I think it will be a couple months before I am moving around at normal speed – let alone “bouncing.” (Only problem is I think he bounced too much. I tried to explain to him to go easy, but he thought he was all better. Now tonight he is complaining that his stomach hurts. Oh – I hope he doesn’t get sick again tonight!)
(The one handy thing is that Jackson just thinks I have the flu too. I find it so hard to explain to him why I am so sick lately, but I don’t want to tell him about the baby yet in case we have another miscarriage.)
So ladies – I am so sorry. I have failed you. I didn’t get to your tackles and I can’t promise I will get to them this week either. But link up – cause even though I am on the bench, I am sure you all will have a great game without me.
Before I leave though – I will leave you with a few pictures. This is part of the tackling I did do – looking after my son. Here he is playing with his toys on Sunday evening. I just love to watch him play. I was sitting on the floor next to him, thinking about what how much he has grown (he is not a baby at all anymore!) and I decided to get my camera. Snapping these pictures, I forgot for a moment how sick I felt. I just enjoyed my beautiful boy.

Janice: you haven’t failed anybody. My goodness, if you’re not feeling well, you’re not feeling well. Rest and take of yourself and that little one growing inside of you!

Don’t be so hard on yourself. The stomach flu was practically an epidemic last week in our little town. Both of my kids were out for the entire week (which resulted in me losing my job). I hope you are doing better! Happy Valentine’s Day!

I finally got my tackle up!
Hope you are feeling better SOON!

I like how you look at the brighter side – at least this gives you a good excuse for now about why Mommy is so sick! See, there’s a reason for everything. 🙂
I’m jumping in with my first tackle, woohoo! Is it normal for TiT projects to grow all on their own??
jen says
Get better soon Janice
Glad Jackson is better again and hope he stays that way
I havent posted my tackle my camera is playing up

This tackling idea is so fun… I’m a newbie, obviously. Lol! Get better quick! That tummy crap is no fun… we battled with it for a solid month. :S

Ewww, I detest morning sickness. I hope it eases up some!

Don’t worry about it — when you’re in the early stages of pregnancy and have a young child at home, there’s not much more you can do besides the very basics. We always love to have you over for a visit but understand when you just can’t. Thanks for hosting this even when you can’t jump in. 🙂

Ewww!! The stomach flu is sooo gross!! I am so sorry.
That tackle is better than I could do. I cannot handle the throwing up, so Adrian has to stay home from work to help. If someone throws up, you might as well count me out — I will be throwing up if I am forced to clean it up.
Praying for good health for your family!!

that’s scary…whenever i see kids throwing up that scares me! I am glad so far, my kids are doing fine this winter season…and hope it remains this way…

I’d say you had a fantastic tackle! It’s hard to take care of someone else when you aren’t feeling well yourself & worse you can’t feel more sick than those you are taking care of…It’s against the rules. My Mom told me it’s in the manual, but I haven’t found it yet!
Barb says
The stomach flu definitely counts, Janice. Ugh. There’s no way you can tackle anything but just taking care of everyone until it’s gone. Hope you all feel better soon. And you’re right – he’s surely not a baby any more. He’s a big boy! 🙂

Funny, when I saw the “Tackle It Tuesday” banner, my first thought was “Does keeping your house together while your dh is out of town and your children are throwing up count as a tackle?” You did not fail anyone! Who wants to be on the computer when they are sick? Hey, we’ve all been there. The bug hit our home twice in the last two weeks. It’s been a nasty year for bugs (of the stomach variety).
I hate that you’ve been so sick, but that is a good sign. Hang in there…this too shall pass. Wish I had more words of wisdom for you. I can say it will be worth it in the end.
Nicole says
Yes, by all means, get to feeling better soon. Then just thing what you can tackle!!
Erna says
I think taking care of yourself & your family is much more important than any tackle. Take it easy. I hope you’re feeling better soon.

So sorry to hear that morning sickness is hitting you so bad! Have you tried “sea-bands” (the things you wear on your wrists for motion sickness)? A girlfriend of mine who suffered from extreme nausea with all six of her pregnancies swears by them. She got them at a drugstore.
Take care of your self…and don’t worry a little (lots) of tv won’t harm Jackson. It hadn’t been the norm at your house and it will change when you feel better again.
Blessings!
Heather says
I hope you feel better soon. Sometimes you just need to do whatever you can just to make it through the day. A little extra t.v. isn’t going to hurt. 😉
ChupieandJsmama says
I hope you are all feeling better! I’m sure Jackson is by now, and I think it might take a little longer for you. Just take it easy and try not to worry about things. I’m not even sick and my kids watch too much T.V. Don’t be too hard on yourself:)
Mrs Lifecruiser says
There is nothing worse than the stomach flu or have nausea, so I reckon your tackle was a HUGE one this week! I hope you can escape it totally!
My post is about: alien pregnancy TIT’s this week! Making you any curious? *lol*
Gina says
Don’t worry about it. I was very sick during Daughter’s pregnancy but for a different reason than morning sickness. Long story. Anyway, my son was 6 at the time and he watched a ton of TV while I laid on the couch. He’s 13 now and he hasn’t suffered any long term effects. 🙂 I learned to just do what I could and let the other stuff fall off. Its more important right now to grow a healthy baby.
Have a great day!
Karen says
Hang in there!! I had enough morning sickness with my last pregnancy that I *lost* weight instead of gaining. Love the pictures of Jackson – I have a k’nex fan here too 🙂
Kari says
Don’t be so hard on yourself.
Rest and take it easy.
Morning sickness for me was 24/7 and almost 8 month sickness. I ate dry cereal (obviously I ate one of the more healthier ones not the loaded with sugar ones lol) and didn’t drink anything within three hours of eating a little just to keep it down. Then drinking was only sips.
If worse comes to worse there is something your dr can do about it now if it gets too bad. My dr threatened with my last one because I was losing wieght but I finally got past it..
Feel better
Marcia says
Hi Janice
It sounds like you’re having a rough time. I don’t have any advice having never been pregnant…
Don’t be so hard on yourself with blog visiting and such. When you’re not 100%, all that matters is the really important things – your health and your family.
I tackled my laundry room cupboards and the hardware cupboard this week.

Oh gosh I’m feeling for you. Hubbie and I were both sick with the flu last week at the same time. It was terrible but we are all on the mend now.
Hope your feeling better soon!
