A high profile national talk show is producing a show on the rising trend of “sexual bullying.”
Recent headlines have brought this disturbing issue to the forefront of parent’s minds. Is your son or daughter getting teased or harassed at school, with terms like “fag,” “queer,” “lesbo,” “gay”?
Are you struggling with how to best help your child without making the situation worse?
The program is looking for parents who are willing to discuss their situation on national television with their child on camera.
Please provide all your contact information and the ages of the children involved, details of the bullying and what you have done to try to solve the situation. To help us put a face with the story, photos are also appreciated.
Send all information to [email protected]

We need laws to force principals to act and to protect them from countersuits by bullying parents trying to protect their vicious little darlings (like Draco Malfoy in the Harry Potter series).
At the same time, we also can’t and shouldn’t count on schools to protect our children from hurt feelings all the time. We must help our children develop the inner grit and resilience to know how to protect themselves from verbal harassment as well as from physical abuse.
I’m the father of six children and we live in Denver, home of Columbine High School.

Janet – yes I agree it is a very difficult issue. But the show we are helping is a VERY respected show and I trust they have the children’s best interests as top priority.
Kim – I am so sorry your children have had to deal with bullying! It must have been so difficult for you to watch your children suffer.
I agree that the more we can bring these issues into the open and show kids that they need to talk to the adults in their lives, the more we can help heal everyone involved.

This is a problem that is running rampant where I live. My two oldest (13 & 17) have both fell victim at one time or another.
Would I go on national television with it? Nope. It would just be further humiliation to them.
But I do hope there is some parents and their brave, strong children who will so that this probably can be seriously addressed.

This sounds like a really challenging show to put on TV. I wonder if it will help the children involved or actually make things worse for them. It will need to be very sensitively handled. How old are the children you are looking for? Do they even know the meaning of the names they are being called? What a can of worms!! I hope there will be appropriate follow-up with the families after the show. A parenting mentor or psychologist may be needed.

Any bullying is sad and it’s a shame that children have to deal with this type of thing.

I have posted twice this year on the bullying issue my dear 11 year old daughter has had to face this year, and yes some of the names bantered are sexual in nature.
My dear 11 old told me she would rather be dead then have to go to school.
There has been one police report for one incident where she was left black n blue and the second landed her in the emergency room getting 5 stitches after being pushed down on ice at recess.
What is going on in our schools?

Well thank goodness that’s one thing I don’t have to worry about.
