“Here Jackson,” I hand my son a package, “I have a present for you.”
“Yipee! A present! But wait…” he pauses and examines it. His excitement turns into a whine, “Is it a book?”
“Yes – it is. But it is a special book. I know you are really going to like it.”
“Is it Star Wars or Pokemon? I will only like it if it is Star Wars or Pokemon.”
Good grief – this is what I am up against! Jackson likes books – but action movies or superheroes are stiff competition.
Have you ever had this problem? Do you ever find your children less than thrilled to receive or give books as gifts? Christmas morning do the books get tossed to the side while all the battery operated toys hold center stage?
Well this time the book took center stage!
Jackson crawls onto my lap and we begin to read his new personalized book from www.printakid.com.
“Hey – that is my name. That boy has my name!” Jackson laughs. We read on. Mommy and Daddy are named Janice and Phil. “Mommy, this is our family!”
The greatest part comes when he finds out his three best friends are in there too. “How do they know my best friends?!?” Jackson is completely taken with it all. “And he looks like me too!”
When we finish reading it, (twice!) he jumps off my lap and races over to show his Dad, “We are all in this book – you and Mommy and my best friends! And everyone turns into animals…and… you gotta look!”
At bedtime we snuggle up and put on the CD to listen to as we look at the book. With different actors playing the parts, and original songs interspersed throughout the story, Jackson is thoroughly engaged. A story that makes him the star – oh yes – I can tell this is going to be a new favorite.
This Christmas, if you are looking for a unique, educational gift, you must check out Printakid personalized books.
In Printakid personalized books, the hero resembles your child, bears the same name and has the same family and friends. Even the illustrations look like him or her, with the same skin tone, eyes, and hair color.

We’ve done this with Happy Kids and they also have tapes that sing your kids’ name. I was just on line ordering something for my youngest. They’re a great keepsake.

Personalized Books are ideal gifts for the reluctant reader, and the quality and selection has greatly improved over what was available a few years ago. The Printakid people have really put together a nice product.

These are the coolest things. My daughter got one when she was born that told about her birth and being welcomed. Her doctor’s name was in it and the family and friends who celebrated her coming. Her house address that she came home too, even the car she came home in. She loved it!

Thanks for a neat article, Janice! And thanks for visiting my site, and commenting, the other day (about book reviewing). I do like the idea of personalized books. I think for kids of a certain age, they can really work. As you clearly showed with your photo.
Cheers! Jen

Personalized books impress even the toughest audience, Janice. Good for you. And that photo of him reading his book is precious.
