So it doesn’t sound weird at first…

My typical toddler is trying my patience these days with her resistance to most foods.

But tonight, Sophia sat quite happily in her highchair and ate her dinner. Refusing the family meal, she instead insisted on a tray full of…

pasta, peas, corn, and blueberries.

What’s weird about that, you ask?

Well, it was cold, plain wholewheat pasta — no sauce or even butter on it — and those peas, corn, and blueberries? FROZEN — as in STILL frozen — directly from the freezer — still with ice on them.

In fact, Sophia’s bizarre love for frozen peas and corn piqued the other kids’ interest and soon Julia, Jackson, Olivia and Sophia were all eating frozen peas and corn — ice chips and all!

My three year old prefers his veggies and some fruits (blueberries, smoothie mix) frozen too. I’m guessing they’re more nutritious that way than cooked, and they’re certainly less trouble, so I’m all for it!

That definitely sounds like a meal our 2-year-old would enjoy. I think her favorite meal is “noodles!” and she likes them plain-as-plain-can-be. 🙂

My kids love frozen food. And the way I look at it, better frozen and healthy than straight sugar!

My 2 year old is riding on that frozen food train…she seems the most into it when she’s teething but it is our fallback meal almost anytime (esp frozen edamame to get her to eat some protein). It seems to easy to be true…I’m thankful for something to be easy!

I started feeding my daughter frozen peas and frozen corn when she was 1, we had no central air and it was stinkin’ hot in our house. She’s 5 now and whenever the frozen veggies come out of the freezer, she’s in line to get some!

Too funny. I have to ask, though, what brought about first offering frozen peas and corn? Blueberries, I get. Peas and corn, not so much.

Not weird at all! 🙂 We did the frozen veggies thing quite a bit when the boys were toddlers. It’s great on a hot summer day. I did put my foot down and insist that frozen meats be cooked. That was more than I could stand…frozen corndog. Ugh.

I don’t think it’s odd. I still have things that I like that others consider weird. I figure as long as they are eating what could be the problem.

Frozen peas was the way we got our kids to eat their peas. AS they grew older they eventually went to warm ones. but hey whatever gets them to eat..i say go for it.

My toddler goes through phases when she wants frozen peas/corn/etc. Usually when she is teething. I’m wondering if that is the case with Sophia?

My 2 year old hates for us to “cook” his food.

He would much prefer a frozen chicken nugget or sausage biscuit. Or cold noodles, veggies, etc. out of the fridge.

    Weird kid.

I’m laughing because I hated cooked peas as a kid, but loved to eat them frozen. We always had a stash of peas in the freezer from my mom’s garden. I ate them like that all the time. And my son will only eat blueberries if they’re frozen.

My 18 mo old is rejecting food now, too, so if he’ll eat it frozen, I don’t care! His big brothers both went through this stage, too, so I know we’ll get through it, but it’s SO FRUSTRATING!

What is it with these little people? My 18mo has always been an awesome eater, and suddenly he refuses almost everything, including his whole milk. It’s been a battle to get him to ingest anything! I think it might be that he’s discovering he has “tastes” and preferences. Little stinker. 😉

I actually really understand!!! My daughter eats frozen waffles & hot dogs straight from the freezer! It’s crazy when those are the instructions you have to leave for the babysitter-“make sure you don’t cook these”!

Nope not weird at all! In fact it is a great way to get kids to gobble up vegi’s. Often when I have run out of snacks I will give everyone a handful of frozen veg and they will be happy as pie, nibbling away!

Isn’t it odd the things kids decide they like? Big Brother has been known to eat a peanut butter and garlic sandwich on occasion. 🙂
