Seriously, I really don’t like the drop by. It is not that I mind the interruption – but my house is just not presentable 85% of the time.
I am not gifted in the art of housework. (In fact I hate housework.) But, my biggest problem is that I am a clutter bug and a procrastinator. Not a good combination! And as a work at home mom, I tend to run to my computer every second I can instead of doing chores in my free moments.
With a kitchen table that doubles as my office and a dining room table that becomes my scrapbook work station, (I have a designated scrapbook area in the basement – but who has time to get down there? I must scrap in whatever seconds I can squeeze in), my house tends to look like a hurricane has blown through.
Toys scatter the playroom floor and piles of mail and papers decorate the counters. On good days, I have the dishes done, but catch me on an off day, and there will be dishes in the sink to boot.
Now it is not like I enjoy living this way. No, it definitely raises my anxiety level. But there are only so many minutes in my day. And since I am a night person, I tend to do my chores at the end of the day. So an afternoon drop by can be down right uncomfortable!
I know I need some Flylady in my life, but I am still one of the lost. And if I have my choice – I end up on the computer rather than perfecting my housework.
I was so relieved to hear that I am not alone. Stephanie Butler’s post on Blogging Baby, “Things I wouldn’t want you to see if you knocked on my door right now,” gave me that you’re-not-the-only-one hug I needed. Apparently I am really not alone, because over 200 people added their messy house stories! Ah – misery loves company!
So if I dropped by your house today, what would you want to hide?

Hi! Well, we are two peas in a pod! LOL! Take a step of faith and just pick one thing to keep up…mine was my kitchen table because it’s the first thing you see when you walk into my house. The Lord has blessed my faithfulness in this one thing and I’m FINALLY starting to see it overflow into other rooms. I wish I could stop being such a messy house un-keeper and a procrastinator…but in the words of Beth Moore, I need to stop “wishing and whining…and start believing and receiving!” Nothing is impossible with God…not even a neat and tidy house. 🙂

I know – I don’t know how moms working full time outside of the home can have clean houses! I think if you work full time – you deserve a housekeeper treat at least a couple times a month!!

OH … I AM SO WITH YOU on that! Working full time takes me away from having that “perfectly ordered” house…. yeah. That’s my excuse!

ahh!!!! Just about everything! You describe someone very similar to me. I do chores at night, I am a night owl and it is quiet then. I grab every spare second at the computer I can, but I don’t have the excuse that I am working either. I have 3 small children that help make messes faster than anyone can clean them up. It takes me a week to get ready for family to visit, no one else comes over…….
