Planning a 6-Year-Old’s Birthday Party

No time to type…

Tuesday is Jackson’s sixth birthday!!! I can’t believe in a few hours, I will have a six year old!

And birthdays mean tackling!

We just got in at midnight Sunday night from our vacation and so we are in full tackle mode to get unpacked and ready for the big day. We had left just after Christmas so our tree and all of decorations were still up when we arrived home. So today not only do we have to unpack, but we need to take down the tree, etc.

And as usual, my kitchen table/desk needs to be tackled. I need to use it as a table tomorrow!

So the to do list is:

  • go to dollar store
  • go to grocery store
  • order cake (we are having ice cream cake!)
  • take down tree and put away decorations
  • tidy house
  • prepare loot bags
  • tackle kitchen table

So far only the first three tasks are done. And the tree is down, but the boxes are still out.

What are the birthday plans?

We start off with cupcakes for his class at school. (We will make those in the morning – Jackson is in afternoon kindergarten.)

Then after school we will head to Laser Tag with five of his friends. After a couple games, we will come back to our house and have dinner and cake.

BUT – I am not finished yet! No – I am a crazy mother who has planned TWO parties.

The second celebration will be at the local recreation center on Sunday afternoon. To that party, I have invited the boys in Jackson’s class and his cousins.

(If you are wondering why I am so nuts as to go through birthday stress twice, I did it because Jackson desperately wanted to have a laser tag birthday party, but we also wanted to include his school friends and cousins. Most of those moms thought that their kids wouldn’t be quite old enough to play Laser Tag, so we are having two separate events. Yes – I am crazy. But at the time it seemed like a good solution.)

Oh – and did I mention that Olivia is in super fuss mode tonight? I think she might be getting a cold. Good grief – this is going to be interesting.

I will post a picture for Wordless Wednesday (or maybe I will do a whole birthday photo post.) We will see if I get any good shots.

Speaking of birthdays I forgot until 9am this morning that I was supposed to bake a birthday cake for my daughter’s teacher whose birthday was today. My morning tackle was to throw together a cake (in no cake mix land) and get it to school in less than 3 hours. Check out my post for pictures and recipes.

Happy Birthday! That’s very exciting! This will be our first year of NOT taking birthday treats in to school and I find that to be very sad.

Birthday parties are such a part of a mom’s crazed lunacy of a life…that kinda stinks though that you have to do it so soon after Christmas. I hope that you guys have a great time though, even though it’s crazy…it always ends up being soo much fun!

I have 2 bdays coming for the boys January 29 and Feb 9. We have them together for now. Tanner is having a hot wheels party this year, just family! Camdn will be 7, and we are just going to take cupcakes to each childs class so Last year we did bowling for both boys and it s 200 dollars for 2 hours, pizza, drinks, rock n roll bowling, it was worth it, but noisy!

In our family we’re experts at excessive birthday celebrations. Take a look at my post from yesterday: http://blog.feefifoto.com/2008/01/so-lets-talk-ab.html. I also posted a tackle for today.

Birthdays are sweet. My aunt used to have 2 birthdays for my younger cousin. Later on she never understood why she wasn’t having the “other birthday” as she grew older.
