A Note from Jennifer:
I wanted to take a moment and thank you for your encouragement and interest in the 5 Minutes for Books column here at 5 Minutes for Mom. Janice has two reviews today, so make sure you scroll down to read them or click here and here. As usual, to enter in the giveaways for the books, you need to comment on the individual review post.

I really love this column! You’re doing a fantastic job.
I would enjoy seeing the following: fiction, Christian fiction, parenting,
marriage,health,cooking,memoir,and general women’s interest.
My daughter is eight months old…so I am interested in toddler age books.
Lynn says
Oh… also forgot to say…
Thank you for Woman In Red! I’m looking forward to receiving my copy!
Lynn says
I love all sorts of books – almost nothing I won’t read. As for children’s books – also nothing we won’t read… there are six children here 12, 5, 4, 3, 20 months, and 9 months. Chances are, any book reviewed/recommended would fit someone in our house – and if it doesn’t fit someone right now, it might soon, three of the children are foster children.
I love the 5 Minutes for Books column.
Kim says
I won one of your books.. Thanks so much.. I have not seen an email yet, but the one listed here is my correct one… Can’t wait to hear from you..

I love variety and enjoy seeing a wide assortment of books reviewed and given away here. As for ages for children, my interest would be boys ages 9-12 currently.
Thanks for your time in providing excellent reviews.

Oops! Forgot to mention my favorite genres:
Fiction,
Christian Fiction,
General Nonfiction,
humor,
memoir,
general women’s interest,
I’d love to see some how-to books, especially as far as crafting goes (like crochet pattern books, scrapbooking how-tos, etc.)
My kids are 7, 11 and 17 so we have a wide-range of interests in our family!

Oh, yay!!! Thank you so much! I had such a rough week (with my little girl getting diagnosed with Lyme) and I was pretty depressed all weekend. Seeing this helped lift my spirits. Thank you!
I checked my email but didn’t see anything. Just in case here’s my address:

I usually read christian fiction. But I love reading your reviews about any book.
My daughter is 19 months but I read her elementary books all the time.

A really cool book I read recently was The 4-Hour Work-week by Tim Ferriss. Not sure what genre this is… I think it falls under the NY Times’s advice section. Anyhow, it’s entertaining and has some interesting insights. I love books that make me think about my life and my priorities… I don’t step back and do that enough!
Also, Mr. Ferriss himself is writing an advice column on my website. Check it out, and feel free to submit a story for him to potentially respond to! http://www.experienceproject.com/authors/timferriss

I have really enjoyed all of the reviews that you have done for this site!!! I personally enjoy fiction and Christian Fiction, parenting books and would love to see some children’s books for ages 2-5…..Thanks for the great column, keep it up!

Oh and I forgot to say thank you for drawing my name as one of the winners! Thank you!
Laura says
I love the variety and it gives me a better chance to see what all is out there as sometimes I get stuck on one thing.
So following Melinda’s lead in how she did her post, I’ll break it down too
fiction — Yes
Christian fiction — Yes
parenting — Yes
marriage — Yes
general nonfiction — depends on what it is
health — yes
cooking — Yes
humor — depends on what it is
memoir — depends
general women’s interest — depends on what it is
I have seven children– 4 boys, 3 girls, ranging in age from 19 years down to 10 months so just about anything could go for them… within reason obviously.
Karen says
I can’t believe I won! I am so excited;)
I am interested in all of the categories you listed, and as for the kids books, I have three sons. They are 2, 4, and 5. The oldest is starting kindergarten on Friday!
Thanks for such great reviews and giveaways.

I enjoy the books you review as well. I have put all of them on my “to be read” list. I like being introduced to authors new to me–it feels like a buried treasure to have several new books that I know I will enjoy ready to read. 🙂
As for genres…I love fiction (but I stay away from the sex, violence, & language. I have a 16 year old daughter and she reads what I do–that is a motivator!). Christian fiction is WONDERFUL. I like the action-type books (love the Thoenes!) and historical fiction. I am always looking for new authors. (I just read a great series, too. I am excited to read more of her works.) I like parenting books, but I don’t go out of my way to read them unless recommended or I have a specific need–right now I am reading “Raising a Godly Girl in an Ungodly World” and enjoying the perspective. Marriage, same thing…general non-fiction I like, but I do SO much prereading for my kids’ homeschool (Sonlight–3 cores, yes, I am crazy!) that I get a lot of non-fiction. Health, cooking (I have tons of these books, but would love to find a good crockpot book for busy families), humor (Yeah!), memoir (again, the homeschool stuff), general women’s interest all sound good, but not particularly what I would pick up on a rainy Saturday. I would still like to read your reviews on whatever you find worthy, because that is what peaks my interest…even if it isn’t a genre I would normally gravitate to, I would read it because of the review you gave.
I have three kids, ages 16, 13, and 9 and they are reading a variety–my youngest is still a princess-girl (she isn’t influenced by Brittany–yea!!) and still loves Berenstain Bears and American Girls. My oldest reads Christian fiction, when she has the time and my middle doesn’t enjoy reading. *gasp!* Reading is difficult (dyslexia), so school is tough enough. He reads in free-reading. I also am always on the lookout for awesome little-kid books to keep for the wee-ones who visit. I love books. 🙂
Whew! Sorry about the novel here! You didn’t know what you would get when you asked for comments!! 🙂

I would really like to have you review more Parenting, marriage, Christian fiction, cookbooks and women’s general interest. Hope that helps. Thanks for taking the time to ask.

I have a 2 year old girl and an 8 year old girl. I have a very hard time with the 8 year old, because she has a 5th/6th grade reading level. The books written for her age are usually too easy. The books written for her reading level are usually inappropriate for her. So anything that you can review for us is a great help.
Hugs,
Melinda

The variety of books reviewed here have introduced me to some books and topics I might have totally passed by otherwise. As far as my preferred genres I usually gravitate toward fiction (of any type) and then to parenting, marriage, religion type books.
In the realm of children’s books, we are currently reading to a 1 year old.
Thanks for the time and work you put into all of your reviews!
TheAngelForever says
I also love the variety of the items reviewed here. It helps me to find new and exciting titles to check out.
As a teacher and mommy, I love to see new titles in Children’s Literature. Reading new and exciting books with kids is a favorite hobby of mine.
I would also love new ideas on cookbooks to try if you don’t have a lot of time.
Cari says
Thank you so much for your reviews! I read parenting books, homeschooling books, and Christian fiction more than anything else. I would love to hear reviews of other types of novels as well – I don’t usually know where to start with contemporary fiction! Historical fiction is fun.
My kids are elementary age, but I work with children of all ages. Any good kids’ book reviews are interesting to me. Children’s literature is actually my favorite!
Kara says
I love seeing a variety too. I love fiction, cooking/household, parenting, and books for small children (I have a 3yr old and 1yr old).
Congrats to all the winners!
Deb says
I feel the same way – I love seeing such a variety of books here, especially since I don’t make it out of the children’s section at the bookstore much. 😉 One thing that I’d be interested in would be recommendations for early readers – my oldest is just starting to read on her own.
I can’t believe I won both books – thank you! Having new books to read just makes my day… 🙂
Karen says
I read a lot of business/leadership development books (think John Maxwell), so if you come across anything that’s good in that genre, I’d definitely be interested in knowing about it! I must agree with Stephanie – I am enjoying the assortment you have done so far. This is a list of what I’ve read this week: Real Boys: Rescuing our sons from the myths of boyhood by William Pollack, Ph.D.; Storms of Perfection…A Pathway to Personal Achievement by Andy Andrews; Winning with People by John Maxwell.
Thanks for your reviews – they are definitely helpful. Especially to someone who reads 3-4 books a week!
stephanie says
I have to say I enjoy the assortment and variety that you are reviewing. I tend to gravitate towards Christian fiction/nonfiction in my own reading so this is good exposure to other books that probably wouldn’t initially catch my eye. 🙂
