Personally, I get thirsty and uncomfortable just thinking about the desert… I certainly can’t imagine raising a family there.
But, I love to read about more adventurous souls like Elizabeth who is raising her American family in an African desert town. She lives with her husband and three children in Mauritania, Africa.
She describes her desert home:
Mauritania, located on the Atlantic edge of the Sahara desert, is the place where Arab North Africa and Sub-Saharan african tribes meet and mingle in daily life. It’s probably one of the last places on earth where you could visit a nomad living in a tent and be given a bowl of fresh camel’s milk to drink.

Also, visit her husband’s site to see amazing photos of where they live.
