I’m back…

Bet ya didn’t notice I was gone!

But I was – for a very short two night trip with my hubby… and without our son! Yes – it was the first time in Jackson’s five and a half year life that we have gone on a vacation without him. I know – crazy – but true!

Phil and I recently celebrated our ten year wedding anniversary, so this little get-away was in honor of that milestone. It was so refreshing to go away just the two of us even though it was not for very long.

We had to get back today for Jackson’s school concert. Jackson’s very cool preschool – it is actually part of a really popular chain of Christian-run preschools in our city – was having a big fund raiser for World Vision with all the kids in the various preschools singing and performing. (They have so many schools that they are repeating the performance three times this weekend to accommodate all the kids.) It was so exciting for us all – and Jackson had a blast. I wish I could show you pictures, but the theater did not allow photography or video. I saw others sneaking shots – I should have done that too! 😉

The kids were performing songs from the school’s original music program. A local Christian music producer and his wife made the music curriculum for the schools and it is incredible. It is wonderful, intelligent material – literally some of the best children’s music I have ever heard. I am so grateful that Jackson gets such quality curriculum at his preschool.

So tomorrow I have to try to catch up with my emails, post-writing etc.

Susan is getting ready for her trip to Italy to visit her husband’s family (all of Rob’s immediate family is in Italy.) She leaves next weekend and will be gone for a month! And so I also have to try to get started covering her work too. Honestly, I have no idea how I am going to not only survive without Susan, but do her work too! Yes – it could get messy! So please have mercy on me. I will be trying my best – but I will be even more behind than usual.

Speaking of catching up on emails, our good friend Jenn from All Natural Mommies wrote to let us know about Five For Fighting’s project with Autism Speaks. Click here to watch a video of their song “World” featuring pictures of Autistic children, as well as facts about Autism. It is a moving video that is sure to choke you up with emotions and prayers for the many families enduring the profound impact of autism. And the bonus is that for every time the video is viewed – up to 49 cents is donated to Autism Speaks.

Thanks Jenn for letting us know – it really is a wonderful way to spread awareness and raise money for Autism.

Good for you! Remember to get away more often. We tend not to give time into the marriage which is just as important.

My husband always really encouraged us to get away, and we always had family to help. It’s been so great for us. I’m glad you were able to do it, and glad that you enjoyed it. I hope you plan another one soon!

Glad you were able to have a little child free time away. That is so nice. I am borrowing your description of that video clip to post about it on my blog. I heard about it on http://adayinthelifeofelle.blogspot.com/ and I wanted to post about it and your description is perfect.

Congrats on the anniversary! I had not spent a night away from my oldest until she was 4 and then it was only because my baby was due and I had the flu. I needed some rest and it was a bad situation….so she went to the grandparents. I think it was harder on me than her!

    have a blessed sunday!

Hi Janice – Congrats on your recent wedding anniversary and also on your get-away! Woohoo! I hope you are refreshed and in “newlywed” mode again. ; )

I just found this blog recently and am really excited to be here. Although I am afraid it may take me months to read through the archives. 🙂

    Have a great weekend,
    Michelle
