For those of you who were waiting to hear what the OB/Gyn had to say today about my bleeding last week, I will give you the update. And for those of you who really don’t want to hear the intimate details of my cervix, please skip this post and accept my apologies for writing about such matters.
So – where do I start?
Well, apparently I have a very interesting cervix – she has never seen anything like it. (Not what you want to hear from your specialist!)
After freaking me out when she first peered in at my cervix with mumblings like, “…hmm looks like you may have two cervixes…” (Excuse me?!?! After all the doctors who have had there time looking at my cervix, you’d think somebody would have noticed that!!! – no, I didn’t say that to her.)
“I am just thinking out loud,” she apologized, “I will be quiet…hold on till I can get a better look… You have a very damaged cervix…”
At that I quickly told her about my messed up D&C and the stitches the doctor put in.
“Oh!” she was very relieved to have her explanation. “That is what it is from…”
Apparently my cervix didn’t heal properly and now I have these long tags of skin growing on my cervix. LOVELY! She doesn’t think they are dangerous or cancerous (she doesn’t want to biopsy when I am pregnant) – but they are very interesting! Good grief – that is what I want – an interesting cervix! But I am very grateful she didn’t think they were cancerous, so I will try not to complain.
She said the bleeding did not come from the cervix and that it must have come from my uterus. (“But not to worry” – like that is possible!)
So now all I know is – I have strange growths of skin on my damaged cervix. (She said they were not polyps.) She has never seen anything like it. And the bleeding must have come from my uterus. Who knows why? But I probably shouldn’t do the things like vacuuming etc that I did before the bleeding started.
Thank God the baby’s heart was still beating away in there – that was definitely a relief to hear. And so even though I have weird growths inside me, things look okay I guess…
(But once I get this baby out – I think I am going to ask for a biopsy on those crazy growths!)

I’m very happy for you that it was not anything to be too concerned about. Still, it’s never good when a doctor finds something “intereresting”. It’s fortunate they didn’t want to take pictures…which they sometimes like to do with “interesting”.
I haven’t checked in in a while. I did my annual kid friendly Easter Post on hatching baby chicks that might be of interest to moms. Baby goats were yesterday.
Twisted Cinderella says
((Hugs)) it is never very much fun when Doctors find you interesting or unusual.
Shash says
I’m thinking about you!!
I have a small little award for you guys on my blog. Just a thank you for all you do.
Kim Priestap says
I’m glad to hear the baby’s ok. I know that if I started bleeding, I’d be very concerned, too. Now, stop that vacuuming and start resting!
MommaBlogger says
Don’t you just love it when they say “Hmmm….that’s odd”, and then tell you not to worry? Are they nuts?! 😉 I’ve had plenty of occasions where I’ve gotten those kinds of comments about “down there”, but thankfully I’ve still been able to have children, at least up until now. We’ll see what God has planned next. 🙂 I hope you’re doing better soon though 🙂

I was told I had a “cute litter uterus” by a previous GYN (many, many moons before I was pregnant).
Don’t know if that makes you feel any better, but I sure am proud of it! It’s even listed on my resume! 🙂
Loretta says
I know how you felt laying on that exam table. I recal myself in that same position very pregnant and hearing my OBGYN exclaim, “oh, well that’s odd,” and then sort of correct himself and say “I mean, it’s interesting, um, different.” Yeah, definitely not what you want to hear when your cervix is on display. Glad all is well though and hopefully things will go smoothly along from here out.

Interesting indeed.

I’m relieved and confused for you all at the same time! Ah, the medical system – can’t live with it, can’t live without it. I’m thrilled though that overall the information is positive 😉
Oh, and I totally agree with the Roomba idea!
Cyndi says
That is odd!! Bleeding while PG is sooo scary! Happened with both of mine. Hang in there, glad the baby is doing OK!
PS- tell hubby you need a Roomba! 😉
Robin says
Janice, I love hearing your self-talk as much as reading the rest of this good news (you sound kind of like I do inside your head:) ).
Isn’t it funny–now that you CAN’T vacuum, I bet you want to more than EVAH! (especially with the coolio one you have).
Jill says
Oh my, Janice. I hope the next 5 or so months go much smoother (or at least fly by!) for you!
Janna says
In the meantime, looks like you’ve managed to get out of vacuuming for awhile!! 🙂 At least something good can come out of the worrying.
ChupieandJsmama says
Prayers and hugs, Janice. And tell you mother not to be horrified. We are all women and have been through similar things before 🙂
Lisa - The Scrap Princess says
I am sending prayers up for you and the baby – you will get through all of this, God hears all of us who are praying for you 🙂 As long as that baby is healthy, try not to stress too much for both of your sake’s. Keep us updated Janice and I look forward to seeing your baby’s first pics!
Hugs, Lisa

*hugs* Still Praying!
Glad the heartbeat is strong!
How are you feeling. I mean outside of the worrying and all how are you feeling?
Karla~Looking Towards Heaven says
my prayers are with you, sweet Janice.
I was supposed to have my first ultrasound (FINALLY) monday, but had to reschedule because of YET ANOTHER round of stomach virus in our home!!!
Blessings,
Karla

Darlene – I am sooo sorry to hear that you had to endure five miscarriages!!! That is brutal. I am so sorry!
Thanks so much for all your encouragement ladies. And I apologize for the detail in my post. My mother is horrified that I posted about such matters!!!!
Amaya says
I understand!! After I had my first, my OB (who didn’t deliver her) said during the exam:
“Oooh! Yes! That’s what we like to see! Hi there!!” I looked at her like she was crazy, and she added, “It’s the smiley face! Your cervix is smiling and saying hi!”
I thought she’d lost her mind, but apparently after giving birth, the cervix recloses differently than before, and generally with a curve that looks like a smiley face. Who knew!
Darlene (CWO) says
Janice that is so great! I had bleeding five times, and every time, I miscarried within about two days. So seeing that you’ve held on this long, and the heart is beating–that’s very very good!
Since my miscarriages, I’ve heard of so many women bleeding and the baby was okay. Can’t wait till the birth. I’m so glad that you are doing well.

I am glad to hear that the baby is doing fine…You better leave the vacuuming to Jackson 😀
Just stopping by to say ‘Hi’ to an ‘old’ friend…
Blessings to your Wednesday and always.
Celeste says
Hate when they say stuff like that! Still praying.

After my first son, I had stitches from front to back (“stem to stern”, I called it) and it left me with some funky skin tags, because the doctor sewed me up all funky.
Apparently they don’t teach these doctors how to sew two ragged edges together – they just grab skin wherever and put a stitch in it. It would be like if you were sewing a hem and suddenly decided to skip an inch of fabric on one side… it would leave a strange “blurp” of fabric hanging there.
Two more sons tearing their way out fixed the funky stitch line… nature healed me up nice and straight.
If they’re doing no harm, I’d say keep the skin tags. They’ll… *ahem*… make things more interesting for hubby. 🙂
And no more vacumming! 🙂 🙂

Praise the Lord that the baby is fine. Take it easy!
Sharon says
Prayers for you! Thank God the baby seems to be doing well.
I can only imagine the frustration you’re feeling. I wish the dr. would’ve contained herself a little more professionally!
Hang in there.
How far along are you now?
melody says
Good grief, call that doctor and tell her I said she’s got some ‘splain’n to do. I can’t imagine how confused that visit left you.
I’m thrilled to hear baby is fine. Now sit down, put your feet up and force someone else to do the housework. 🙂
Prayers and hugs.

Well, I have an “irritable uterus” which is why I have contractions 5 minutes apart for the last 16 weeks of all my pregnancies. That’s 5 minutes apart, all the time.
Apparently, that’s an official diagnosis, because I’ve heard it from more than one dr!
Don’t they learn long pretty Latin names for these things anymore?
jen says
Pleased baby is ok
praying for both of u

Heather says
Well it’s good news that baby is fine, but how weird to tell you those things and then say not to worry. Yeah, right.
christieo says
wow! that is interesting, to say the least. I find that when I see a doctor, I end up with more questions afterward than I did to begin with! I am so glad to hear the baby is still doing well in there! I will keep you in my prayers, Janice!!
Kilikina says
Still praying. I would get them checked too!
Jenn says
Don’t you HATE doctors? I sure as heck do – 9 times out of ten they scare you more than they help you! Rest easy and try to relax – then tomorrow I would call her and STRONGLY request more information – I mean your scared and she needs to understand that!
Lissete Diaz says
Prayers being said. I too had some bleeding with my first and fortunately everything was fine. Scared the beejeezus out of me though, so I can imagine how you were feeling.
Hugs!
Carey says
Im still praying too. Got to love these Drs.
Luisa Perkins says
Yikes! My prayers are with you. I’m sure you and the baby will be fine. Take it easy!
Amy says
For what it’s worth, I had bleeding early on in both of my pregnancies, and I have two healthy, beautiful girls (one 20 months, one 1 month). I never did find out what caused it with my first, but with my second I had placenta previa that reversed itself by the time I was at 20 weeks.
Good luck to you. I hope everything turns out to be nothing.
Laura says
I’m still keeping you in my prayers!
