Kitchen drawer clutter can really pile up and become overwhelming if you don’t tend to it regularly. Whether it’s a kitchen drawer with a purpose, or just one of those “catch all” drawers, you’re going to want to take time to clean and organize it on a regular basis. Even if you’re prone to junk piling up in your drawers, all it takes is a good system to help keep the clutter at bay.
Here is how to organize kitchen drawer clutter and help prevent the mess from accumulating again:
Start with Sorting
Your first step is to take the entire drawer out (or clean it out if you can’t remove it) and sort what’s in it. If you have a lot of stuff, sort it into smaller piles based on the items inside. Put like with like and remove the trash.
Once you’re able to sort through everything in the drawer, you’ll also see which things ended up there because of convenience. What do you need to keep and what should be tossed out or find a new home?
Throw Out the Trash
You’re probably going to find a lot of junk in the drawer that you just don’t need anymore. If it’s trash, toss it. If it’s something you can donate, give it away. See what’s left and make sure you actually need it in the kitchen and that there isn’t a better place for it elsewhere in the house.
Drawers are the worst for collecting clutter. It just seems all too easy to open it up and toss junk inside where no one can see. That is, until it gets so full it starts falling out or jamming up the drawer. Take care of the problem before it gets to that point.
Create a Place for Everything
Before you begin putting things back, you need to create a place for everything. If you have a wide or deep drawer with a lot of small things inside, you might decide to use smaller baskets or bins inside the drawer, or build or buy dividers to help separate the things inside. This will keep everything in its proper place and make it easier to keep the drawer organized over time as well.
You might also decide to label your drawer or sections of your drawer so that you and others in your house know how to put things back where they belong.
Now that you know how to organize your kitchen drawer clutter, you’re ready to get started. Whether it’s one messy drawer or an entire kitchen full of them, you’re prepared to take control of the clutter once and for all.
