Do you like to crochet? Follow these simple instructions to make a cute DIY crochet cell phone bag. Often a little purse to carry your smart phone is all you need when you’re heading out for a walk.

Our friend Michelle Lee is an expert at crochet. She made this purse and wrote the following instructions for us to share with you.

How to Make a Crochet Cell Phone Bag

This small purse is lightweight and perfect for holding your mobile phone and a couple credit cards or other small items.

Supplies

  • Ruler
  • Yarn
  • Crochet Hook
  • Button
  • Needle (big enough so you can use yarn with it)

Instructions

Measuring
To come up with the size of your cell phone bag you’ll need to measure the width and length of your phone. Jot those down so you don’t have to keep rechecking. You will be crocheting one large rectangle to fold making the pouch and flap.

My cell is a Samsung Galaxy and here’s the size of my finished piece:

  • Width – 4 inches
  • Length – 6 ½ inches {total, before folded, 15 ½ inches}
  • Strap – 51 inches

To decide how long your rectangle will be you will measure the length of your phone, you’ll then double that number plus add enough for a flap.

Making the Purse

  1. Start by making starting a chain and make it the width of your cell phone bag then chain 2 more, turn, double crochet in the second chain from your hook and continue to the end of the row. Chain 2, turn, double crochet until end of row.
  2. Repeat this process until the length you desire is completed.
  3. Tie off.
  4. Fold finished piece to fit your phone leaving enough for the flap.
  5. Using the yarn color of your choice, with piece folded the way you want it to be, you’ll use the needle to sew the sides of your bag closed.
  6. Tie off.

Making the Strap

  1. Crochet a chain to desired width you’d like your strap to be.
  2. Single crochet in second space from the hook and all the way across.
  3. Chain one, turn, single crochet all the way across.
  4. Repeat until desired length.
  5. Tie off.

Finishing

  1. To sew the straps onto your bag, turn inside out, use a yarn color of your choice, place strap an inch down, on the side seam of your bag and sew in place.
  2. Repeat on other side.
  3. Turn right side out and then sew on your button.
  4. To place the button go an inch down from the top and find the center spot, then sew in pace. Weave in any loose yarn.

There you go… Your new crochet cell phone bag is done!

Hey guys. Thanks for the comments.

Yes, it is one big rectangle that is folded for the case and the flap.

I like easy projects that don’t require crocheting a lot of different pieces that you sew together.

Anymore questions just let me know.

    Thank you, Michelle

I have been crocheting like crazy since Christmas! I love this. I am confused about where the flap comes from. Is it part of the rectangle that you fold? Like you make one side of the square bigger to include the flap??
