Did you realize that the Rio 2016 Games are just over a year away?
Canada’s Olympic team is preparing for next year’s Games in Rio, and are setting their goals on how they want to train on the #RoadtoRio.
Does your family enjoy watching the Olympics? Will you and your family do anything special to get ready for the 2016 Olympics?
A great idea to get kids excited about watching the games is to try a new summer Olympic sport or host a mini backyard Olympics.
I think my girls will be most excited to watch the gymnastics. While neither Julia nor Sophia are super athletic and haven’t done many competitive sports yet in their little lives, they have both done some gymnastics.
Julia will do doing competitive cheer this year… but I don’t think that’s an Olympic sport yet. LOL
Getting Your Kids Excited About The Olympics
This year, I will try to encourage my girls to try out some more of the summer Olympic sports and follow along more closely with the games than they have in previous years.
I love this idea of working on a specific skill and trying to see how with practice you can improve throughout the year. Then before next year’s Olympics, you can get your family to try again to see if they can beat their personal best.
I think it’s great to teach kids to compete with themselves to beat their last best score instead of competing so much with other people.
Here is a list of all the summer Olympic sports.
