Interview with Leisa from “Down with the kids!”

I’ve always enjoyed writing and this is a great outlet for my creative urges! I also love recording the details of my life - it’s such a special time. I also find it a great way to keep up with technology and learn about what happens out there on the web!
What makes your blog different?
I guess it’s very Australian - which is a bit of a different flavour to most of the mommy blogs I come across (we say mummy rather than mommy, for example). I also try to keep it smart and positive, it’s a celebration.

I’ve been blogging for just over 6 months, but its only been recently that I’ve started publicizing my website. I had to gain some confidence - at first I was very shy!

I normally blog about daily life - both my internal and external worlds.
I also write articles reviewing kids books and the best of the parenting literature out there!

My friend Emma started blogging the same time as me, and I religiously read her blog:

One of my inspirations for blogging was the work of the Sarcastic Journalist. I think she’s a funny, funny lady:

I get really excited by comments and love to chat!

Close family and friends read it, particularly those who live a long way away. I don’t publicize it to everyone I meet, however, it’s not everyones cup of tea!

I’m new to the forum thing, it’s not something I’m naturally drawn to, but in the interests of keeping up with trends I’ve started to visit:

I blog when the kids are asleep - or on weekends when I can leave them with DSO!

I heard this radio program about a blogger from Iraq who was writing a blog during the end of the Saddam Hussein’s regime and continued on through the invasion.
I found the idea that you could access the world of someone experiencing what was going on in Bagdad at that time without the spin and sensationalism of the media captivating! I thought, this technology could really change the world!

Everything inspires me!
Being a parent gets such bad press, with focus on the negative aspects, the risks, the dangers, the sacrifices. This is partly what inspired me to put my hand up with my blog and say - you know what, this is fun, rewarding and I’m lucky to have the chance to do it! In addition to that looking after kids hasn’t stewed my brain, I’m still ironic, witty and keeping up with it (or at least trying!)
