Lessons from the Laundry

Revelations come to me when I’m in the laundry room. It has been happening ever since my daughter was diagnosed with a mitochondrial disease. The world seems to quiet when I stand in front of the washer and dryer. I’ve written a book, also titled Lessons from the Laundry, and I’m going through the process toward publication. My blog helps me stay connected to not only my book project, but the awesome people who may read it…one day.

The piles and piles of laundry! I do about fifteen loads of laundry a week. It is the one task that I find mundane and I am uninspired every time I walk into the laundry room. But blogging has allowed me to look at this process as something other than a household chore. Similar to how I’ve had to take my daughter’s disease, something I loathe, and learn how to make it beautiful.

I love people who aren’t afraid to reveal their emotions. Exposing raw feelings can help the blog readers with their own struggles. Although I love to read other moms’ blogs, I also love to step beyond my own suburban life and follow blogs of people involved in extensive travel or interesting experiences.

Yes, thank goodness my family and friends read my blog. For a long time I think my Mother and Aunt were the only ones logging on! I wish my husband would visit it more often…but then again maybe I don’t.
