Interview with Tonya P from “Home With The Kids”

“Home With The Kids”

I am a stay at home homeschooling mom and over time I’ve collected lots of great resources and links. But they were hard for me to find and hard to share with others. So when my husband decided he wanted a website, I came along for the ride and started a website of my own. My blog is the “Musings” portion of my website. This is where I’ll post random thoughts, share the very best links of the day and other important news that just doesn’t fit anywhere on my website.

Less than a month! I started the websites in late December of 2006 and soon realized that I had too much information to share each day to just keep adding it to a single webpage.

I will occasional share a learning success about my children or some other great moment. Usually I will share a link to some website I’ve found that offers a great freebie or resources that would be really useful to other homeschooling moms. I also like to share anything new I’ve learned from my readings or websurfing. For instance, do you know how to reduce your junk mailings? Or that a potato masher is great for making soup? Now you’ll have to read my blog to find out why a potato masher helps you make soup. LOL!

Honestly, I’m still trying to get through my Wall Street Journal and various message boards so I can stay on top of things. I like to read blogs that tell me something I didn’t already know, alert me to some issue I need to be aware of, or just give a great praise to God.

Try not to say anything about anyone that you wouldn’t want them to read.

I haven’t had a chance yet but I hope when I do it goes well.

Oh I hope not. (blush)

I visit several support forums for homeschoolers, I also visit Frugal_Moms and MerchantMaidens.

My “office” is in the family playroom. So I am able to work or “play” at my computer while also staying tuned in to my children.

Blogging is my last activity of the night, to wrap up everything I’ve found during the day. I usually spend about 15 minutes to 1/2 hour catching up.

No, I’m still too new to blogging to know much about the search engines.

I actually learned about blogging in an article in the Wall Street Journal.

I have no idea.

God and the perfect beauty of a happily sleeping child.

I am the host of Home With The Kids (www.hwtk.net), Books@HWTK (www.books.hwtk.net), Shop@HWTK (www.shopping.hwtk.net) and Get It Together @HWTK(www.lessons.hwtk.net).

At Books@HWTK I post my book picks, bargains I’ve found and my book reviews. Plus there are search aids to help you find out of print books.

At Shop @HWTK there are gifts for kids and adults, digital photo providers, homeschool vendors and lots more. I have reviews of some computer games my family enjoys as well as reviews of several of the top online digital photo shops. I also have Featured Shops to help you “find what you need fast”. Plus, there’s a page of all the sales and coupon codes that I find and list almost every day.

Get it Together @HWTK is where I put together links to be used for lesson plans. I have lesson links sorted by topic and month (only January and February right now- March is coming soon!). Once on the selected page, you can choose a link and be directed to a website or sites that will provide free materials for your schooling. For instance, for Presidents’ Day you’ll be directed to the Gallery of Presidential Portraits and a biography for each President.

I also provide recommendations for books and materials to be used along with the lessons.

Again, many of these resources are ones I have used or will use in the future while caring for my home and educating my children. The websites just let me “store” all my information in a really fun way.
