Interview with Margie Perscheid from “Third Mom”

“Third Mom”

Third Mom

The experience of adoption has changed my life profoundly. But I have learned over the years that my overwhelmingly positive experience is counterbalanced by loss - my children’s loss of their first families, country, culture and language; and their families’ loss of these two amazing individuals.

It makes me think, hard and long. Third Mom is where I share my thoughts with others.

I’ve been blogging since March 2006.

Because my children are older, I blog more about the emotions of adoption, rather than the process. My posts are intended to get other adoptive parents thinking, to.

Pace yourself!!

Talking to visitors is THE BEST part of blogging. So please visit Third Mom, and comment! I sincerely want to hear from you, even when you disagree with what I write. Don’t be shy!

Yes, friends who are fellow adoptive parents and adoptees read my blog. But what is really exciting is that I’ve made so many new friends online, including a wonderful group of first mothers, who have opened my eyes to their part of the adoption journey. I will be forever grateful for their willingness to let me enter their dialog.

My children. Being their mom has been the most important role of my life. Watching them grow to become two strong, confident Korean American individuals has been a treasure.

I maintain the website for Korean Focus, an organization for families with children adopted from Korea. A group of friends and I founded Korean Focus in 1996 in the Washington, DC area, and it has grown to include four additional chapters: Northern Maryland, Cincinnati, Seattle, and Indianapolis. Visit the Korean Focus Chapters page for information on how to contact a chapter in your area, or how to start one yourself.
