Interview with Gina from “Portrait of a Writer…Interrupted”

I blog because recently God asked me to cut back on my writing. I know that sounds crazy, but to get the full story go here.
The short version is that I had to cut back on my novel writing because my priorities and focus was out of balance. I started the blog to talk about NOT writing and what God was doing in my life.

I blog about real life. My life. My struggles and joys with my children, homeschooling, writing, and hearing the voice of God. I also host some awesome interviews with homeschooling writing moms. Many of them are published authors and Im in awe of how they do it all. My goal with the interviews is to learn from them and if I help someone else along the way than thats great!

There are so many. My current favorites are My Code yellow Life, GeorgianD, MOMTEACHERFRIEND, Using My Voice, plus dozens of others listed on my bloglines. I chose these few to share because they speak to where Im at in my life right now, and I can relate to almost everything they blog about.

Decide what you want to blog about. If you want to be read then pray about finding your niche. Months before I started Portrait of a WriterInterrupted, I prayed that God would help me find my own little place of cyberspace. He answered my prayers, but it wasnt exactly in the way I had planned.
Also, dont let blogging consume your life. Its very addicting, and you have to put it in its place. (Preaching to myself here.) Remember there are real flesh and blood people in your life. Dont neglect them to spend time in cyberspace.

I love getting comments and chatting with visitors. I try to visit my commenters blogs and leave messages for them as well.

Yes, but I can count them on one hand. Most of my offline friends and family aren’t into blogging.

ACFW has been a tremendous blessing in my growth as a writer. I keep links to every place I visit on my sidebar so I can get to it easily.
I also start Writer…Interrupted the Community! Come check us out!

I blog whenever I get a spare moment. Mostly before breakfast, some at lunch and then at night. I try not to spend hours blogging, but if the kids are occupied, time just slips away. I’m planning on buying a timer to help me not get lost in the blogging world.

I really can’t say. Some days it’s 15 minutes others it’s a couple of hours.

Not really. On occasion I surf blog rolls and blog rings.

From Marsupial Mom an offline friend whom I communicated more with online.

Other moms who’ve gone through what Im going through right now. Their stories and examples let me know I’m not alone.
My writing critique partners who aren’t afraid to tell me the truth about my writing and help me grow as a person as well. I’m blessed to call them friends.
And last, but certainly not least, my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ who’s been through all the feelings and emotions I go through on a daily basis and who’s grace and mercy is always available for me!

I have gained so many genuine friendships through blogging. Blogging always challenges me to be a better mother, wife and writer. I wish I had all the time in the world to read all the wonderful blogs out there, but I can’t! But I do drop by unannounced every chance I get to old and new favorites.
And one sure way to get me to visit your blog is to leave a comment on mine. I started blogging to connect with people, and I love to talk about what’s important to me. Faith, family and writing!
