Interview with “She Lives”
“She Lives”

At least twice each week, I prayerfully post something that contains a biblical truth for other Christian women. I want to encourage and help strengthen the faith of the spiritually mature, while teaching new Christians and those who are perhaps seeking the Truth. With the Lord’s help, I do occasionally hit the mark.I also enjoy engaging in the fun things going on in God’s blogdom. Weekly topics, meme’s, online Bible study discussions, etc. Fellowship is essential to building relationships online fellowship being no exception. I think relationship-building is important on so many levels when one is called to lead or minister. I blog about my faith, my family, my foibles and frustrations, my observations and opinion lots of opinions. Sometimes, I even blog about blogging!

Advice for new bloggers? I could do a post!If I were to pick the number one thing that I think would help new bloggers gain readership, I’d say, be generous with your links and comments. You can’t expect folks to go running to your blog just because it’s there. If you consistently visit and leave comments on other blogs, comments that are more thoughtful and interesting to read than “Great post,” folks will be more inclined to click your link to see if you have something equally worthwhile to say on your own blog. And look for ways to link to a blog in the body of a post; that blogger will probably find that link through Technorati or some other blog tool. Be consistent in your posting and commenting unless you’re not at all concerned about people reading your blog, in which case you don’t need any advice at all. Just something that didn’t seem to go anywhere else….One thing Christian women should always consider and pray about when blogging: anything a Christian can come across on the Internet, a non-Christian can also find. It’s so important that our blogs reflect the heart of Jesus, even when we’re doing a silly meme in which His name isn’t even mentioned.Proverbs 27:19 says, “As water reflects the face, so the heart reflects a man.”What we blog about so clearly reflects what is in our hearts. We should always do everything in our power to preserve Christ’s good name and reputation as others look at us online. Along with that comes the need to extend grace to others. What we do and say reflects what’s going on in our hearts. Just something to keep in mind.

I blog at home. I hit other sites a few at a time here and there throughout the day.I usually write posts for my own blog at night after everyone’s gone to bed. That’s my thinking time. No phone interruptions, nobody complaining about the lack of cookies in the house, no chores calling to me from beyond the walls of my study. It’s writin’ time!

This varies. It takes a while to make it down my long blogroll. I have blogs that I read daily and some I only get to once or twice per week. One thing that helps me is, when I have a big chunk of free time to devote to writing my blog posts, I’ll write several at one time and save them as drafts. I can set some to auto-post on future dates and don’t have to worry about not getting anything posted on days when life’s demands keep me from getting to the computer.Something else that works well for me is to work blogging into my time at home. I may, for example, decide I’ll clean out two drawers, then visit four blogs. Then I might fold a load of clothes and visit four more blogs. That tends to encourage me to get my chores done, but still allows me to blog along the way. I don’t read blogs or write posts when the family is home and awake. I often stay up an hour or two later than the rest of the gang and use that time for writing.

I mostly use Technorati to see who is linking to my blog that I might not otherwise be aware of. I mostly find blogs through other blogs. If I like a blog, I tend to look down their sidebar to see which blogs they like and follow those links.I look through the archives of blogs I haven’t visited before. If I find that blogger consistently has something worthwhile to say and they say it well, I add them to my feed reader so I’ll remember to return. I also click links to folks I notice commenting on my blog more than a time or two. I figure, if they’re coming back, they must have found something of value at She Lives.(You know, “blog” is not a lovely word. It’s hard to put it into a paragraph as many times as I just have and expect the prose to ring.)

My husband spent the first half of 2005 trying to get me to blog. I read an occasional post here and there, but didn’t think it was for me until he pointed out that it would provide me an outlet for my writing Jones. He’s so smart! He knew I’d love it. It just took me a while, like eight months, to figure it out for myself and get started. I can be slow that way.

Truth! And humor! They go hand-in-hand more than we realize. We tend to take ourselves so seriously and don’t take God seriously enough. We’d find life a little easier to contend with if we’d learn to lighten up about ourselves and each other a little more, and take on a little more good, ol’ fashioned fear of the Lord.
