More Skees Please

More Skees Please is an outlet for me to capture all of the hilarious things my kids say and do, the joys (and frustrations) of parenthood and everything in between. I have always loved to write, it wasn’t until I became a mom that I had such great material to write about!

I started More Skees Please when my 2nd son Aiden was born in 2008. We were taken off guard when we found out at birth that he had a very rare craniofacial condition. The blog became a way to keep our family informed about the many appointments and surgeries Aiden had to undergo.

More Skees Please topics range from ordinary everyday things to more personal subject matter like depression, raising awareness about craniofacial conditions and special needs. Mostly, it is a place where I share the joys and struggles of raising 2 boys.

I never miss a post from:
Home Run Mama
Rants from Mommyland
Jenny on the Spot
The Spohrs are Multiplying
Playgroups are No Place for Children

I have just recently become interested in learning how to make money from blogging. But I don’t want my blog to be all about giveaways, freebies and advertisements. I want to maintain the content to include good writing and true-to-life experiences.

My blogging advice is to really think about why you want to write your blog, who you want your audience to be and what you want to accomplish from it. If it’s to make money, then by all means, there are many ways to do it. But if, like me, you want to keep the focus on your writing, then be choosy about what offers you intend to promote on your site.

I love getting comments on my blog and try my best to respond to everyone. I think it is a great way to let me know a little about visitors to my site and also to find more great blogs to read and follow!

Because my blog started out as a family update page, most of my family members read my blog quite often.

As a stay-at-home mom, it is often difficult to find the time to sit down and blog, but I do! It is usually when my boys are napping or after they have gone to bed for the night. But I will admit that if the writing bug strikes and I have an opportunity, I will put on a show for my kids and type away!

My Google Reader list grows daily. I LOVE to find and read new blogs and I’m definitely a faithful follower of the ones that draw me in from the start. I’d say on average, I spend between 5-6 hours per week reading blogs (in spurts of 20 mins or so throughout the day) and 10-12 hours per week writing.

I Googled my son’s condition after he was born and found a blog about a family who had a child with a similar condition. As fate would have it, our families are now very close friends beyond the blogosphere! We share our love of writing, love of our kiddos and swap medical stories. My friendship with them is very precious to me.

My children. Hands down. They are 90% of what I write about and the other 10% relates to them in some way. Whether it is something funny they’ve done, the way they amaze me with their courage and compassion through surgeries or how they’ve made me a better person – my kids are my inspiration.
