Interview with Debbie Yost from “Three Weddings”

I blog for several reasons. First and foremost, as a mom I believe it helps to share our parenting experiences with other moms and dads so we do not feel alone. This not only includes our accomplishments but our failures.
I also blog to advocate for my youngest daughter. Not very many years ago people believed that people with Down syndrome had nothing to contribute to society. Many infants were placed in institutions because their doctors recommended it. Parents started fighting for their children and as a result, my daughter has many advantages that others did not. However, we still have a long way to go and I want to help educate others about Down syndrome. I want the future to be even brighter for my daughter than it is today. I want to help others understand and see the beauty in our children.
Finally, I blog to practice my writing. I have loved writing since the writing bug bit me in fifth grade. I used to dream of being an author, but as I got older that dream got pushed to the backburner as I pursued my education, a career and finally a family. Blogging gives me the outlet to practice my love and share it with others.

I have been blogging since December 2007.

I blog mostly about my youngest daughter, Peanut. Being a preschooler and having Down syndrome, she is a unending wealth of stories. My middle daughter, Diva, is a close second. My oldest daughter, Michelangelo, does not get the spotlight very often; a common problem children experince as they get older.

Gabi’s World is a blog about Gabi who has Down syndrome and her family.
Banana Migraine is a blog about Delphine who has Down syndrome and her family.
My Life for the World to See is a blog about Meggers who has epilepsy and her family.
Our Little Piece of the World is a blog about Caroline who has a chromosome disorder and her family.
Life and Time of a Teenager with Disabilities is a blog about AZ and her journey with cerebal palsy.

I love to “meet” and chat with my visitors. I do not often leave comments in the comment section, but if I have an e-mail address, I try to respond by e-mail. I usually only respond in the comment section if someone asks a question and I don’t have an e-mail to respond directly to them.

A few but they rarely comment. Most of my readers are people I have met in cyberspace.

T-21 Online Community is a forum for families with children with Down syndrome.

At home. Whenever I have time.

I first started blogging after I received an e-mail from my sister about an e-bay posting for Pokemon cards. The listing told a humorous tale of a woman who had gone grocery shopping with her six children and came home with a package of Pokemon cards the children had snuck into the cart. She had a blog, Because I Said So, and I started reading. After about four months, I decided to try my hand at blogging.

I don’t have another website myself, however I also write for the on-line parenting magazine, Root & Sprout about various parenting issues and raising a child with special needs.
