ETC … “Equipping the Children”

Posted By Cassidy

What a blessing it is on the day we find out we have a little baby on the way. We dream of those sweet smells, the tiny little fingers and toes and the unconditional love that baby will pour out to us as we pour into that baby!

We all know very well the responsibilities that come along with a baby … diapering, teething, clothing, feeding. As they grow the responsibilities grow.

A huge cost, yet even more it’s a huge blessing!

Our *primary* goal as a mother is given to us by God Himself. We are to raise His children to love and serve Him. Of course we are responsible for many things, but the most important is the one with eternal consequence or eternal blessing.

One obvious, and maybe one of the most important ways we teach them to love and serve God is through our own lives, our example, day in and day out. Yes, we know, they are always watching, their little ears always listening to what we are doing..

The righteous man leads a blameless life; blessed are his children after him. (Proverbs 20:7)

BUT WHERE DO I FIND THE TIME?!

Teach them to your children, talking about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. (Deuteronomy 11:19)

This is your walk with God. Let them see you “praying without ceasing.” Let them see Mommy or Daddy down on their knees before the Lord seeking His answers. Let them hear you pray blessings over them. Let them see you living out God’s word in your life and talking about it every time a moment approaches and you feel the Holy Spirit’s tingling that “HEY! THIS IS ONE OF THOSE TEACHABLE MOMENTS!!!”

Did you realize there is a promise for both the parent and the child when this faithful teaching is done? God is so awesome to always chasten after those who belong to Him and yet He is always there, ready to BLESS those who are His, those who are seeking Him!

Promise to Parents:

The righteous man leads a blameless life; blessed are his children after him.(Proverbs 20:7)

God’s word never returns void. We are to teach these children His word so when they grow up they KNOW it, it is INSCRIBED upon their hearts! What a blessing as a parent to see your child following Christ!

Children, obey your parents in the Lord that life may go well for you. (Ephesians 6:1)

And when you get down to the *ETERNAL VALUE* for both parents and children it gets very simple.

Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it. (Proverbs 22:6)

Be encouraged as you go this week! God is right there, eager to help you do what you need to! He never leaves or forsakes us. He’s not going to ask us to do this and then just leave us to figure it out ourselves. Let’s pull out our Bibles or a childrens’ Bible and let’s start imprinting the Word of God on those babies hearts! :) Let’s make sure our walk is upright so they have the example they need to follow!

It never ceased to amaze me as a teacher, that parents would expect their children to be able to read and enjoy reading………but when you would ask, ‘how and when do they see you read a book’ the answer would be in the negative.
Monkey see, monkee do is a cute but true saying. It is the same with language when parents swear like troopers but have no idea where their children pick up bad language.
Our children, and I include all children around us here, whether our natural children or those we are in relationship with in some way will copy what we do….not what we say.
If our mouth and our manner of living do not match then children pick a phony up more quickly than do adults.
So if our life in running the race of faith is transparent to our children, if our love for Him is visible, then this is what they will follow.
