Declined Invitations

Posted By Guest Contributor

“Come on mom” calls this sweet voice from somewhere beyond my sight. Not sure what to expect, and still sitting quite comfortably on the couch I reply to my -always on the go- two year old. “Where are we going?”

“Come on. Hold my hand. Put our shoes on.” I wasn’t about to get up just then. My feet were propped, I had just stuffed my belly and I was a relaxin’! Needless to say, my little guy was disappointed when I declined his invitation.

Sitting there, I started thinking about God, and how I sometimes decline His invitations. It looks much like the scenario with my son.

Beyond my sight Jesus calls me. I can picture His outstretched hand. He is holding my shoes and offers all that I need for the journey. But I, too comfortable, too lazy, too distracted and too afraid of the unknown decline His invitation.

I remain in my familiar and comfy surroundings. My next thought… is what would it take. What would it take to get me up off the couch? Out of my comfortable distractions and willing to follow Christ every time He calls. He will give us every place to set our feet. He will never leave or forsake us. What else should I need?

As I was with Moses, so I will be with you; I will never leave you nor forsake you. Joshua 1:5
Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.” Joshua 1:9

Jesus said “come follow me” Matthew 4:19
Peter left his nets.
John left his father and boat.
Will I leave my couch?
