Covering With Prayer

Posted By Cheri

A wonderful thing happened at dinner the other night. My 11 year old daughter Dallas, prayed for her 7 year old brother. Usually this does not occur, not at dinner and certainly not in front of him.

She prayed that he would have a good baseball practice that evening. I looked at him after she said it and the look on his face was priceless. His sister was praying for him. You could tell he was a bit shocked but was quite delighted at the same time. It was as if for the first time he saw that his sister actually loved him. These two argue all the time. They do get along on occasion but for the most part they are fighting. I know you all feel my pain!

A few minutes later I noticed that I hadn’t put any salt on our vegetables. I told them if anyone needed the salt I would get it. Dallas said, “I do!” What happened next was shocking! Justin said, “I’ll get it for you sis.” Well… will wonders never cease?

His heart was softened towards her because she had prayed for him.

Imagine what would happen if we would pray for our enemies or for the ones that we feel have done us wrong. Not that my children are enemies with each other, but you all know what I’m saying. When you feel hurt by someone the pain can go deep.

This is going to become something we do at the dinner table every night. Everyone will have to pray for someone else at the table. It can be for a big thing or a little thing that’s going on in their life. I can’t wait to see all the love that will come out of this. I do hope you will join us in this, as I am really excited to see what will happen. I just know God will soften our hearts for each other and our home will become a more peaceful place to be!

There is no greater gift than the gift of prayer. Nothing reaches higher or produces more good, than prayer.

I want men everywhere to lift up holy hands in prayer, without anger or disputing.
1 Timothy 2:8

To pray for someone is to love them– and loving one another is what we are commanded to do.

The entire law is summed up in a single command: “ Love your neighbor as yourself.”
Galatians 5:14

Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins.
1 Peter 4: 8

Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for showing me what praying for others can do. You are an awesome God capable of ALL things. Softened my heart so that I can see the good in everyone. Help me to pray for those who have done me wrong. But most of all Lord, give me Your eyes for them. In Jesus’ name and all according to your will, Amen

  3. That is absolutely precious, but also a great reminder to me–not just as a mom, but a person who deals with people with whom I fight and argue or disagree with!!
