Ask any mother what she thinks about going to Wal-Mart and I bet the usual response would be less than positive. So it is with me.
I had put off going as long possible. I had my list and plastic bags to be recycled with kids and husband in tow. At the last minute, I told Dad that if he would stay in the car with our children, I would zip through quickly and get it done as painlessly as possible.
As soon as I walked into the store I noticed new shelving and aisles. The store was in the process of being remodeled. Have mercy! Why on earth were the office supplies where the food used to be? Kitchenware was now where the purses were formerly located. So much for the quick trip that I had planned.
Change. On this earth it is inevitable and often difficult. Only one thing will never change and that is our faithful God. Malachi 3:6 testifies of this…I am the Lord. I change not. Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever. (Hebrews 13:8).
The God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob is the great I AM. He always was and always will be. Nature evolves, people change, circumstances shift, and stores get redesigned, but God is immutable. He is the Father of lights, with whom there is no variableness, neither shadow of turning (James 1:17). In this ever changing world, what a comfort to know we have a rock on which we can depend.

We must be shopping at the same Wal-mart! When the scenery changes, getting our bearings isn’t comfortable. My family is experiencing change issues…the ride feels rough, but I know we are in good Hands :-).
Very good illustration. I REALLY dislike when stores do that, even worse when you’re in a rush. God is alwasy in His same place. Praise Him!
With a whole bunch of change starting to stare me in the face in the next 6 months, I really appreciate this post, Angie!
