Doesn’t That Just Blow Your Mind?!

Posted By Kathleen

I have been ill and in pain for the past few weeks. I am over the bronchial-pneumonia bit but am still in pain (my back and right leg) so have been spending a lot of time at home or at the chiropractor. Normally during this time of year I am baking, decorating, shopping, etc… All those things that I had planned to do and have done in the past.

Yesterday thought I did get out. I went to the chiropractor, got my nails done, went to see the play “A Christmas Carol” with my husband and even did a bit of shopping. I over did it to be sure but through it all though I kept thinking of the “The Reason for the Season”, Jesus my Savior. The Christmas carols on the car radio, the strong Christian message in A Christmas Carol and all the songs sung in the play, the Christmas songs playing in the store… They are for the most part all about Jesus, His Family and celebrating his birth.

One person asked me a long time ago where Santa Claus fit in at Christmas time and I remember telling them that if we didn’t have Christmas to celebrate there certainly would be no Santa Claus and no St. Nicholas who was indeed a very real person. There would no reindeer, no Santa’s helpers, no Christmas Trees, no “Peace on Earth, no Christmas carols, no Choir of Angels, no manger scenes, no presents, no giving, no Christmas plays, no Christmas stories, no Christmas pageants, or candy canes, no Christmas movies, no holiday romance (yes, God is a romantic -read Song of Solomon!), no family traditions… There would also be no debate on whether it is political correct to have a Nativity scene in your local park. Jesus is the reason for it all.

Doesn’t that just your mind? All these things that we take for granted but love to celebrate would be completely obsolete. Why don’t some people understand this really simple but mind-blowing concept?

Personally, I find it exciting. I try to think about what life would be like without Christmas and without my Savior and I simply can’t. It is just to depressing of a thought. My mind refuses to go there and I thank God for that.

Enjoy this precious season but remember why we celebrate. I think Matthew 1:21 says it all.

“And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name JESUS, for He will save His people from their sins.”

There truly would never be a celebration, He is the reason for it all. Hope your feeling totally better quickly.
