Faith Walking

Week 1

So Christ has truly set us free. Now make sure that you stay free, and don’t get tied up again in slavery to the law. Galatians 5:1 NLT

I’m so excited to be back writing for Faith Lifts, after taking a few months off to keep family matters in order over the summer. The Lord has taught me many things while on hiatus, and birthed a new way to go about writing devotionals. In the past, I’ve condensed life experiences into a short story, and wrapped the Scriptural truth around it. While capturing those “God” lessons has always been beneficial for me, and I hope for you as well, the Lord has challenged me to look at Scripture first, and then provide the life lesson—or even just a life question—for us to consider together.

The way God worked this idea into my mind was through reading the book of Galatians in one complete sitting. The timing was divine, as I was away for the weekend with my husband without our children. I was up early one morning reading a wonderful book by Lucinda Secrest McDowell, “Amazed by Grace.” At the end of one particular chapter, she advised reading all of Galatians. I was surprised by how many practical life principles leapt from the pages. Through that experience, I was inspired to write this particular series of devotions based on the book of Galatians. Putting this series together has been a wonderful new adventure, rich in learning and stretching in experiences. I pray you will enjoy it as much as I have, and become an active participant by taking the Faith Walking challenge!

There is no time like the present to get started. Before we do, however, let me highlight a few key points. Galatians was written by the apostle, Paul, to the people of Galatia. Paul was intensely concerned for the people in Galatia to live entirely free in Christ, by faith and through the working of Holy Spirit. He was concerned that they were falling away from the truth of the Gospel message and trying to earn their salvation. As a result, Paul addressed four important areas of the Christian life—Biblical Law, Faith, Freedom, and the Holy Spirit—putting into perspective what it looks like to live free in Christ. Now tell me that isn’t a message relevant for us today!

Will you join me on this devotional series from Galatians and see what blessings the Lord has in store for us as we explore our lives through Faith Walking in His Word?

Heavenly Father, we give you great thanks and praise for giving us your Word, the Bible. Without it, our understanding of you would be so limited. Through your Word, we can receive instruction, guidance, and perspective that will transform our lives. Lord, I pray you would hold us to our commitment to receive your truth through the Word given to us in Galatians.

Faith Walking

* What do you think freedom in Christ means?
* Do you feel like you’re living a life that is pleasing to the Lord, or do you think He expects you to do more for Him?
* What does it mean to be saved by faith and not by works?

The Next Step

Read the entire book of Galatians! Read, as you would your favorite novel, and enjoy the Word of God like never before. Do you not have the time? Are you busy balancing work or chasing kids around the house? Well, stick your Bible in the bathroom and read one chapter a day between now and next Thursday. There are only six chapters! You can do it! Take in the Word and let God’s truth bless you.

Take the Faith Walking Challenge

You can take the Faith Walking challenge by copying and pasting this covenant with the Lord into your journal, Bible, or even on your blog, and be sure to ask others to hold you accountable.

Faith Walking Challenge Covenant

Galatians 5:1

So Christ has truly set us free.

Today, ________________, I ________________, commit to the Faith Walking Challenge hosted by Faith Lifts, so that women, like myself, may be encouraged to grow in their faith and testify to God’s transforming power.

I promise to do my very best unto the Lord to read each devotional, to make reading the Scripture passage a priority, and to set aside time during the week to follow through on the Faith Walking and The Next Step questions.

I make this covenant with the Lord so that I may mature in my faith and be able to glorify Him more fully each and every day.

Be sure to leave a comment, and feel free to share the link to your blog, to let us know if you’re taking the Faith Walking Challenge! You have been prayed for, and we want to continue to do so by name!

I am very excited about the Faith Walking Challenge! The book of Galatians is one of my favorite books. I did a rather extensive study on it while in seminary a few years ago. I’m ready to dig back in and see what new truths God will reveal by doing another extensive study. Thank Elisa for writing this!!

I’m the same MarilynM as above, but I’ve moved my blog. I have been completing the studies, but didn’t have time to transcribe my answers. I believe that I will add this to my blog, also.

    * What do you think freedom in Christ means? I am released from routines of religion for salvation. Christ’s sacrifice released me from the bondage.

    * Do you feel like you’re living a life that is pleasing to the Lord, or do you think He expects you to do more for Him? I believe that my life is pleasing to Him, however, He does want more growth. He wants me to totally turn my burdens over to Him and not “play keep away” with them.

    * What does it mean to be saved by faith and not by works? The legalistic people that I encounter are frightened and unsure. They “hope” that they have done enough to get into Heaven. Praise God for His grace and that we are saved through Jesus Christ and not our good works.

Thanks, again, Elisa! God bless you for sharing with us.
