Proverbs 31:27
“A virtuous wife carefully watches all that goes on in her household and does not have to bear the consequences of laziness.”
This Bible scripture shares such an important truth for us as wives and mothers about making our homes. If we carefully watch over *ALL* that goes on in our household then we do not have to bear the consequences of laziness! So many times I have been royally embarrassed when someone stopped by my house because it was a MESS! I recently read where Michelle Duggar was telling about how her family does “quick cleans” throughout the day to help keep things in order. With seventeen children I think this mother would have some great advice! So often I do my cleaning when the kids have gone to bed. Throughout the day is when most people visit, not after the children are fast asleep - so this leaves my visitors always coming at times my house is a mess. Each night when I put the kids to bed I have drudgery to clean up such a big mess. If I would just take the time out of my day and put in the effort to watch all things that go on in my home and have my children help me do “quick cleans” then I wouldn’t have to suffer the embarrassment all the time! It’s amazing how the Bible is absolutely relative to “modern day times.” I have had a great love for Proverbs 31 and I am sharing it below to help encourage other Mommies out there!
Proverbs 31: (The Message translation as found at www.BibleGateway.com )
10-31 A good woman is hard to find,
and worth far more than diamonds.
Her husband trusts her without reserve,
and never has reason to regret it.
Never spiteful, she treats him generously
all her life long.
She shops around for the best yarns and cottons,
and enjoys knitting and sewing.
She’s like a trading ship that sails to faraway places
and brings back exotic surprises.
She’s up before dawn, preparing breakfast
for her family and organizing her day.
She looks over a field and buys it,
then, with money she’s put aside, plants a garden.
First thing in the morning, she dresses for work,
rolls up her sleeves, eager to get started.
She senses the worth of her work,
is in no hurry to call it quits for the day.
She’s skilled in the crafts of home and hearth,
diligent in homemaking.
She’s quick to assist anyone in need,
reaches out to help the poor.
She doesn’t worry about her family when it snows;
their winter clothes are all mended and ready to wear.
She makes her own clothing,
and dresses in colorful linens and silks.
Her husband is greatly respected
when he deliberates with the city fathers.
She designs gowns and sells them,
brings the sweaters she knits to the dress shops.
Her clothes are well-made and elegant,
and she always faces tomorrow with a smile.
When she speaks she has something worthwhile to say,
and she always says it kindly.
She keeps an eye on everyone in her household,
and keeps them all busy and productive.
Her children respect and bless her;
her husband joins in with words of praise:
“Many women have done wonderful things,
but you’ve outclassed them all!”
Charm can mislead and beauty soon fades.
The woman to be admired and praised
is the woman who lives in the Fear-of-God.
Give her everything she deserves!
Festoon her life with praises!

Thank you so much for linking us to Michelle’s site. I am so encouraged to see her story and those that she links to. We have recently answered God’s calling to add a fifth child to our family. This came at the most perfect day for me. ((hugs))
Thank you for sharing this wisdom! The kitchen is frequently a place which gets messy as I have three young ones who like to “feed the floor” as much as themselves. I’ve realized I need to take a little time after each meal to tackle the mess instead of leaving it until after dinner or I feel stressed out - company present or not.
It is motivation that I lack and this proverb is just what I need to make the choice of home and family before business. I think I will make this into a poster for my store and hang it in my home above my computer to remind me that my job is first as wife and mother then a business women.
I am a single woman who is preparing myself to be the best wife I can be when God sends me my lifemate, and your site is awesome!!!!Thank you for such great info,Linda
