…neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 8:39 (NIV)
Lately life in our home just stinks. There is no nice way to say it. Bipolar Disorder is rearing it’s ugly head in my son’s life and, of course, that means it is disrupting the lives of every family member. Our two youngest sons live on the autistic spectrum with the youngest also living with cerebral palsy, and their brother’s bipolar upheaval puts them both in an unsettled emotional state. My husband, well, I will refrain from discussing his mood. Me… I’m having a pity party and my demeanor is not exactly Christ-like. It’s barely human-like.
Now I’m thinking. I know how God feels about me when I am happy, positive and taking on the world with a smile. He likes me. I even like me. I wonder how God feels about me when I snap at everyone, when my thoughts are in the gutter, when I fling about the house in a frenzy, when I don’t like me. How does God feel about me then?
Does my lousy mood and behavior separate me from the love of Christ?
Wednesday night while sitting outside on the deck, God answered. He whispered to me, “Look up, listen and breathe deeply”. Slowly I lifted my eyes…saw the overwhelming beauty of a full moon lighting the ink black sky…heard the tiniest creatures of the night singing His praise…smelled the cool air which sustains my life.
I thought. Nothing can separate us from the love of Christ. I thought some more. But just to be certain we’d believe, God became flesh and lived among us. The moment was as though God placed his hand on my shoulder and said, “You are special”.
He wasn’t just talking to me. In God’s love, you are special, too.
“NOTHING can separate us from the love of Christ” ,yes- and I’d love to see a new version of the Bible for mothers that would say “Neither tantrums nor time-outs, dirty diapers, disasters or slammed doors…shall separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus!!
Lauren, I’m certain those words are translatable from some verse of the Bible.
Thank God that He made us and understands.
Dear Lord, please lift up Melody with Your strength, peace, and Spirit to help her through each day.
Pam, thank you for your prayer, for caring. Blessings to you.
