Watch For the Twitch of His Hand

Posted By Tamera

In my quiet time this morning, I read this passage from Psalm 123

I lift my eyes to you, O God, enthroned in heaven. [I] look to the Lord [my] God for his mercy, just as servants keep their eyes on their master, as a slave girl watches her mistress for the slightest signal. Psalm 123:1-2 (NLT)

I thought this was a powerful word picture of how we need to keep our eyes on God and be ready to do the slightest task He asks of us. Most of us, however, cannot relate to being a slave or servant. (Or perhaps we can. )

On the other hand, most of you are wives and mothers and you have a desire to care for the needs of your family. You do watch your family closely; often looking for the first indication that there is a need and hastening to fill that need.

Shouldn’t we also be practicing that kind of attentiveness toward our Father? Shouldn’t we look for opportunities to serve Him by reaching out to others around us?

How often do we hear that still, small voice that prompts us to call a friend—or even a casual acquaintance—and encourage them? Do you sometimes see a stranger who looks sad and feel your heart go out to that person? Do you take a moment to catch their eye and smile; or reach out and gently touch their arm; or say hello?

“They also will answer, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison, and did not help you?’ “He will reply, ‘I tell you the truth, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.’ Matt 25:44-45 (NIV)

Today, won’t you keep your eyes on the Father and watch for the twitch of His hand…watch for an opportunity to serve His children and thus serve Him.

God Bless You on Your Journey!

I really needed to hear this this morning. As I feel like I am having trouble keeping up with everything. I realize all I do and should be doing is for God not myself. I need not be discouraged or overwhelmed.
