Stop, Look, and Listen

Posted By Tamera

Remember those instructions? I can still hear my driver’s ed. instructor pounding those words into my head.

“When you come to a railroad crossing, STOP, LOOK, & LISTEN!”

When you come to a major crossing in your life, try applying these same instructions.

STOP:

Draw a line in the sand. Decide, “Today’s the day I’m going to make a stand!” If you have come to the point where the pain of staying the same has become greater than the pain of change, you’re in a great place…even if it doesn’t feel like it.

LOOK:

Really look at your life. Be ruthless. Admit the truth about yourself. Spend time seeking God about what He wants you to change and specifically how you can make those changes.

LISTEN:

Get quiet. Until you are able to get quiet, you cannot hear what God was saying; you cannot hear what your heart is saying. Often, there are too many distractions in your life. The television, the computer, the radio; even your daily responsibilities can become a distraction.

Have a place to write down your thoughts; a journal. It doesn’t need to be anything fancy. You can use a spiral notebook, a composition notebook (my personal favorite, a dollar a piece at Wal-Mart), or a pretty journal. Writing your thoughts will help you to focus. Also, it helps you to be able to come back to later and expand on what you had discovered in a previous session.

So, get that journal in hand and start writing.
