Got Milk?

Posted By Guest Contributor

We’re almost out of milk, again. There’s nothing quite like an empty milk jug to bring on a case of melancholy with me. It’s silly, really, since we would need a cow in our back yard in order to always have milk available.

My family of six, three teen-agers included, goes through gallons of milk faster than you can say, “Better stock up again at Sam’s Club!” And since raising our own livestock is not an option on our cul-de-sac, I buy at least 4 gallons at a time. It feels so good when those full jugs are lined up like ammunition on the bottom fridge shelf. I sigh in momentary satisfaction, “My family has what it needs!” Well, for a couple of days, anyway. Then it’s off to the store again, as long as we’re not out of gas in the minivan.

Shortages pop up in every corner of my life, tempting me to discouragement. No clean bath towels. More month than money in the budget. Not one blank space on today’s calendar, and I just got something else to do. Everywhere reminders that despite my best efforts, life demands more than I’ve got. Maybe that’s why I’ve been loving the praise song, “Enough.”

I’ve been living in the line from that song that says, “All of You is more than enough for all of me, for every thirst and every need; you satisfy me with Your love, and all I have in You is more than enough.” It puts to music the Scripture which says,

“God is able to make all grace abound to you, that always having all sufficiency in everything, you may have an abundance for every good deed.” (2 Corinthians 9:8, NIV)

I might as well get comfortable with running out. I can’t have it all, I can’t do it all.

Those are the places where I can experience My Heavenly Father as the One, ever-accessible Source of anything I really need. No matter what, in knowing Him today, it’s enough.

What a great article. It puts words to what I’ve actually thought before (”I might as well get comfortable with running out. I can’t have it all, I can’t do it all.”) With God, there is no lack. He really is more than enough!

Very encouraging when our pantry looks very slim. Thanks!

Too true…and I don’t have teenagers yet! Thank you for putting a few things in perspective for me.

Thanks for sharing! That’s how I usually feel - life demands more than I’ve got. It’s good to know I’m not the only one and that He’s more than enough for me.
