Finding Peace

Posted By Lundie

Have you ever had those days when you just felt your brain was going to explode? When you have some issue going on in your life that so overwhelms you that you think you might go crazy? Or that churns your stomach and makes it hard to even think about eating?

And what do you do in those times? How do you get through?

Well, I had a couple of those days in a row last week. Let me tell you, it’s not a situation I want to repeat any time soon. I think I was in a state of prayer longer and more frequently than I have in a really, really long time. The lay down on the floor on your face and cry kind of praying. What I wanted more than anything was for God to remove the situation from my life. Barring that, I wanted peace.

Peace.

It can be such an elusive thing - especially when you need it most.

And, the way these things always go, I find some clear answers after the fact. It’s a live and (then) learn kind of life.

  1. 1. Recognize and accept that peace will not be based on circumstances. God has not promised that our situations will be peaceful. Just that we may have peace in Him.

I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world.”
    John 16:33

  2. 2. Fix our minds on Christ. Focus on Him. Talk with Him. Re-direct our wandering thoughts to Him when they focus on the struggle and difficulty in front of us. Pour out the worry and doubt and fear at his feet.

You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in you, all whose thoughts are fixed on you!
    Isaiah 26:3

  3. 3. Let the Holy Spirit comfort our troubled mind and transform our thoughts. Jesus said it’s why God sent him here.

So letting your sinful nature control your mind leads to death. But letting the Spirit control your mind leads to life and peace.
    Romans 8:6

But when the Father sends the Advocate (Comforter) as my representative—that is, the Holy Spirit—he will teach you everything and will remind you of everything I have told you. I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid.
    John 14:26-27

  4. 4. Think positive. And then act positive.

And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise. Keep putting into practice all you learned and received from me—everything you heard from me and saw me doing. Then the God of peace will be with you.
    Philippians 4:8-9

May you have a blessed and peaceful Monday.

Just posted about this today, only did not take the time to pull scripture out. I linked your post to mine. Thanks for posting what’s on my heart today too. :-)

Another wow! I have had 4 really rough weeks of scheduling with my jobs (too many) and I know God is growing me through for a busy school year, but yikes! Thanks for the insight.

What a timely post for me for this week, Lundie! “Redirecting my wandering thoughts to Him….” “Fixing my mind on Christ…” Words I’ll be holding close this week.
