2 Timothy 3:16-17
Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking,
correcting and training in righteousness,
so that the man of God may be
thoroughly equipped for every good work.
A few weekends ago, I had the privilege of attending a parenting workshop at my church led by a seasoned mother, gifted speaker, and sister in Christ. Her practical advice and vision casting enabled me to walk away with confidence that the Lord has equipped me to do the job at hand!
Since my oldest was born seven years ago, I’ve allowed the fact that I was not raised in a Christian home to shake my confidence in being able to provide one for my own children. Many times, I’ve forgotten that it was God who knit my children together and determinedly placed them into my family, and instead doubted my ability as their mother to offer them an eternal inheritance.
Psalm 139:13
For Thou didst form my inward parts; Thou didst weave me in my mother’s womb.
Revelation 4:11
Worthy are Thou, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power;
for thou didst create all things and because of Thy will they existed, and were created.
As I sat listening to the speaker’s suggestions for weaving God’s love into the daily grind of parenting, I was surprised by how many of her tips I’ve incorporated over the years: from regular Bible story time to sharing Scripture during the nitty-gritty of discipline, from pointing to His creation in everyday life to showing my own need for God’s word and prayer as they witness my commitment to having a quiet time or attending a Bible study.
Suddenly, I realized that my passion to know God personally has naturally carried over to sharing Him with my children. In essence, that is what it means to be raised in a Christian home—to expose the love of God to our own children, so that they may receive it and desire it as well! If I want my children to know God, they need to see me knowing God, too. As I turn to God’s Word daily to learn about Him, I am also being equipped by Him, through His Word and the Holy Spirit, to teach those very truths to my own children, as it says in 2 Timothy 3:16-17.
Think on these things and share with us your thoughts…
1. Do you feel equipped as a mother to raise your children in a Christian home, or have you doubted your abilities?
2. Do you need to become a child before the Lord, and allow Him to teach you His truth daily through His Word, in order to be a more equipped mother?
God will work through your passion for Him and His word to equip you as Mom! He’s done it for me and He will do it for you!
Heavenly Father, thank you that you do the equipping, the providing, and the blessing that goes along with motherhood. Thank you, Lord, that even when we feel ill-prepared, you prepare us and work through us. Father, show us the areas in which we need to return to you and your Word, in order that we may know you more fully and share you more thoroughly with our children! In Jesus Name, Amen!

This is so good and I don’t know how anyone can raise children without God’s guidance and care. Thank you!
Thank you.. this is so true.. Our children learn though example. They look to us and if we are seeking God, and having God as the center of our lives, our children will see this. Sometimes we think “how can i raise my children for God” It is at those time we need to turn to God to guide us and Turst him to work His will not only in our lives but in the lives of our children. He wouldn’t have placed them in our care if He wasn’t going to give us what we need to raise these children. thank you for this wonderful post.
I’m so glad this post offered you both a word of encouragement! May God receive all the glory for the way He’s worked in our lives to equip us a moms!
Blessings,
Elisa
