Spotlight of Faith — “It’s true, sighed Roo”

Sweetness with a Small Town Touch

Ruth is one of those bloggers who I wish lived in my neighbourhood. (And since she is a fellow Canadian – I will leave that extra “u” in neighbourhood!)

I wish we could get together for tea (she would drink coffee) and nibble some chocolate while our children played. But since I would have to trek across the country into some cold, windy part of central Canada to do so, I will have to settle on being blog buddies.

It's true, sighed RooWhat about you? Have you met “Roo” yet?

Ruth’s blog, “it’s true”, sighed roo”, is both innocent and profound, just as the name suggests. Her posts mix together the beauty of childhood, as Ruth revels in her love for her daughter Shiloh, and the lessons of life, as she grows in the knowledge and love of her Lord.

I love reading Ruth’s posts and seeing her wonderful photos. It is a friendly, warm place to visit and I always leave inspired (just like the hundred acre wood!)

Interview with Ruth, from “it’s true”, sighed roo”

Spotlight of Faith Award from Faith LiftsJanice: Hi Ruth - thanks so much for chatting with me today and for being a faithful friend of Faith Lifts.

Ruth: My pleasure, Janice. I feel like I should thank YOU and everyone in the Faith Lifts community. So many times I have instantly connected with the topic and with what people are sharing. (Though I haven’t always been able to comment because of a computer glitch). It often feels like the person writing the post is “reading my mail” and talking directly to my heart.

Janice: Okay - I just have to ask - what is the story of your blog’s unique name? As I mentioned, I think the name reflects your blog, but why did you choose it?

Ruth: :) Ha! Well, in these parts, I am known to have this “Dr Seuss”-like reputation. *smile* That title just kinda popped out of me after many, many title changes.

When I first started blogging I would change my title every month. (Variety is the spice of life, right?) First it was, “What’s new with Roo” then, “What’s a Roo to do?” or “a little Boo from your friend Roo” and now we have - “It’s true,” sighed Roo.

Janice: Why did you start blogging? Have your reasons for blogging changed since you started?

Ruth: My blogging journey began one cold winter day in 2004. By chance, I happened to stumble into blogland. And it didn’t take me long to get happily hooked.

Shortly after discovering this fun, new world, I jumped on the “blogging bandwagon”.
In the beginning, my blogging became more sporadic as I had not connected relationally on line. However, after Shiloh was born, I began to develop real friendships. As my blogging relationships deepened so did my blogging perspective.

No longer was this just a place to post a fun picture or tell a cute joke but it became a place for me to express what lay hidden deep inside my heart. I felt like people were listening and I wasn’t just throwing my words into thin air.

Often in our daily relationships there isn’t room to express something you might in a post. I love blogging because not only has it given me opportunity to connect with people I have never met but also with people within my own home town. We are becoming a community of bloggers. Someone I might see in church will post something really touching and I can give her a call and say, “Wow, I didn’t know you were feeling all that.”

Blogging has been a great outlet for me as a stay at home mama hen. Even though on some days I might not be able to leave the house, I can connect on a heart to heart level with someone several time zones away. I LOVE that.

Janice: What do you hope that readers get from your blog? What do you get from reading other people’s blogs?

Ruth: Encouragement and hope. I want to build faith in peoples hearts that no matter what their circumstance and situation there is a God who loves them and who is weaving it all together. We need sunshine and rain to make a garden grow. Often I am only interested in the “sun” shining on my “garden” but if it weren’t for the rainy days - my “garden” would whither and die.

I read other peoples blogs for different reasons. One reason would be that many times God has spoken directly to my heart via words someone has written on line. It’s comforting to know that we are not alone. We’re all in this together.

Janice: From reading your blog, we can see that you have a very loving marriage. I love this fun post about you and your husband. What has kept your marriage in such a good place?

Ruth: We’ve been married just under 3 years. And one thing we are learning to do is to celebrate our quirks. :) Unity is not uniformity. And part of the beauty (and mystery) of marriage is the merging of 2 separate identities - to become one.

That’s sometimes hard for me to remember.

I get mixed up. I start to minor on majors or major on minors. Does that ever happen to you?
When he wears his dirty shoes inside the house - that’s a minor. Or when he leaves his socks on the floor - another minor. But if my reaction to these things is to complain and nag - that would be a major.

And for every quirk I see so clearly in my husband, there are often at least 10 other quirks living in me. My vision is often 20/20 when looking at him and far sighted when looking at my own heart.

Janice: Thanks again Ruth for being a part of Faith Lifts and for taking the time to visit.

Ruth: Thank you Janice. I’m thankful for Faith Lifts. Shalom everyone!
