Faith Builders: The Faith of a Giant

Posted By Heather

David wasn’t a warrior, and he knew it. But David had a weapon Goliath didn’t have — Faith in God.

So many times we have heard the story of David and Goliath. As a child, I remember being mesmerized by the fact that Giants were really real! I would look at the pictures over and over, amazed at the size of Goliath!

Today, as an adult, I have my own Goliaths. They arent in the physical form of a Giant, but they are giants in their own form.
Weakness, Doubt, Anger, Bitterness. These are just a few of my Giants.

I think as adults, we need to take a moment to reflect on the story of David and Goliath. We need to view it through adult eyes, without the glamour and sparkle of our childhood memories. We need to see the story for what it really is- an application to our daily lives- Right now.

David was a small boy. He wasnt a warrior, he hadnt done anything spectacular with his life. Yet God had a plan for him! Goliath was a Giant of massive proportions. He was arrogant and taunting. He represents everything that is holding us back in our lives.

Now put that into application. How many of us feel as if we cant defeat our battle- because we feel we are too small, and the battle before us is just too big. How many times do we look at our cirucumstances and just accept them because they are too big for us to disect? How many times do we forget that we have been given the tools to accomplish mighty things!

Faith is not belief. Belief is passive. Faith is active.

Davids faith was active. He picked up the stone and placed it in his slingshot and swung it. It took a physical act to put his faith into practice.

Discussion:
How can you physically put your faith in action today? In what circumstance in your life is God calling for you to step out, pick up that stone, and follow Him? How does the above quote impact your struggles in this area?

You can defeat your Goliath whether it be anger, bitterness, or any other stronghold in your life. But you must first step outside of your comfort zone and pick up your stone.
