My young son’s sparks are rocks, sticks or anything outside (mine, too!); trains and horses or cowboy-related things. Oh and reading…in a big way.

It sounds like our daughters are similar. Mine is also “sparked” by reading, writing, and public attention (being on stage etc).

I just read in a church newsletter that a high % of people praise their preschoolers daily, but it goes way down for older kids. I’ve thought a lot about that lately.

I have a 17 year old son, who found his passion of playing the guitar at age 13. He spends at least 3 hours a night playing and has become very proficient. His spark has allowed him to acquire many spark champions and has literally has changed his life!

Both of my girls are “sparked” by reading and discussing books. My older daughter is into history and writing (she’s already planning to publish a book!) while for my younger daughter it’s drama and music.

Love the tips you shared. My kids sparks are when they pretend play and I ask questions about what they are doing. They love to share and I love to listen!

What sparks my teens (I have 2)

(1) anything sports, this includes, but not limited to: watching golf, football, tennis, swimming
(2)computer (hardware) taking computers apart & putting together to suit his needs
