In this day and age of electronic gadgetry, it’s hard for kids to not want the latest and greatest device to hit the market. My pre-teen is clamoring for a smartphone.  I’m not ready to pull that trigger yet, but I am tired of constantly having to track down my own phone when I need to make a call, or worse yet, finding it with a dead battery because my kids were using it to play games!

I’m pretty sure I’m not the only mom experiencing this problem.  It’s a good thing there are geniuses in the world who look at these situations and say…”I have and idea!”   PlayMG is one of those brilliant ideas!

 playmg

PlayMG is a handheld android gaming device that comes pre-loaded with premium games from favorite game houses like EA and Com2us.  The device uses GooglePlay as the marketplace for other downloadable games, many of which are free.  There are several other features on the PlayMG that both parents and kids will appreciate:

  • Front facing camera
  • Wi-fi Internet access
  • Calculator
  • Email
  • Clock
  • Calendar
  • Headset jack for listening to music

PlayMG also comes with an e-reader.  This is a great way to encourage kids to read throughout the day.  It’s quick and easy to pull up a book on their digital device and it will encourage them to take a break from gaming once in awhile.

Family Collaboration/Digital Wallet

One of the best features of the PlayMG is the Family Collaboration system that it updates parents through weekly emails about your child’s usage.  These emails will tell you which apps your kids are using the most, what they downloaded and how much time they are spending on the MG.  This can be a really good tool to use to help children learn to be responsible within the boundaries the family agrees to regarding MG usage.  I love the thought of being able to monitor without having to hover and nag.

Part of the Family Collaboration feature is PlayMG’s “Digital Wallet”.  The digital wallet lets parents create “game allowances” using a reloadable SpendSmart prepaid MasterCard. That way kids still have some control and choice about what they spend on games, but parents don’t get surprised with a hefty bill!  And when you make an initial deposit of $10 on your SpendSmart card, PlayMG will match it to give you a total of $20!

Where to Buy

The slim and portable PlayMG is available for purchase for around $150 at Target, Toys R Us and Amazon, as well as at the PlayMG website.

I was letting my 4 year old watch a movie on our tablet and went to change my baby’s diaper. When I came back there were three hairline cracks across the screen and it no longer works. I would love to win this!

I like the parental controls, I can control even form a distance on how much they spend on games. I don’t have to be looking over their shoulders while they are on the MG, I can just look at the nifty report to see what they are up to.
