I have never actually done yoga, but I have to admit that my moves closely resemble yoga when I stretch over the mess, balancing gingerly, to get my son’s clothes out of his closet each morning.
Hi, I’m Melanie, and I am thrilled to contribute to “Tackle it Tuesday” every other week here at 5 Minutes For Mom. I am a busy mom, full-time software developer, blogger, blog designer, and can basically find two million reasons to put off projects until later.
Am I the only one who does that?
That is why Tackle it Tuesday is a great way to motivate myself to tackle a chore!
So, back to my “almost like yoga” moves…
Ordinarily, I would clean up for new guests, but we’re all friends here, right? Today, I’m just going to air my dirty laundry and messy closets for the world to see (and if yours look similar, would you please leave me a comment to help the humiliation factor over here? Thanks!). Here is a sneak peak at the closet makeover from my 8-year-old son’s closet.
See that little arrow? That turned out to be buried treasure! We’ll get to that in one moment…

Cleaning out a closet turned out to be a super easy task that didn’t take as long as I expected! I filled an enormous garbage bag full of trash, filled a plastic tote with clothes that were a size (or TWO!) too small for my son, and found some games my son had forgotten he owned! He is having fun with the “new” games, and I love that putting away laundry takes MUCH less time and effort. It also takes him less time to find clothes each morning before school!
Oh, and that little box in the top of the closet? It contained treasure that made me both happy and sad…
I love to buy clothing for my kids when it goes on clearance. Usually, I will buy the clothes a size or two larger and store it back for the next year. This idea is great and saves money, but only if you remember where the box is! I opened up the box in my son’s closet, but sadly, he had already outgrown some of the NEW clothes because I had forgotten the box. However, some of the items still fit him and he has three brand new pairs of jeans from the “treasure/mystery box”!
So, please, go clean out those closets if they look like mine! You may find buried treasure! (And if you do, please come back here and let me know what you find!)
I want to feature YOU!
What is on your “tackle it” list for this week? It doesn’t have to be a difficult project, just something simple that you would love to check off your “to do” list. Simply write a blog post about it and enter the link below (or leave a comment if you don’t have a blog). Each week I will choose a project that one of you linked up the previous week, and feature YOU on this blog! Woo hoo!
Get those posts and comments coming! I can’t wait to see what you tackle!

I do that too, of buying clothes ahead and stashing them away, but you’re right, it’s so hard then to remember them and get them out at the right time!

So honored to be linking up with you today! My HUGE project is just barely underway and we move in 20 days. I need to get motivated really quick to get packed so I’m not dreading the crunch at the end.

Great Job Melanie. One suggestion i would make to stop you forgetting, or losing track of clothes that are too big, or for donation, is make them visible. Put these containers where you see them all the time, and label what they contain. Make a point of every season check throught each box, so you don’t miss a growth spurt. Good luck.

GREAT ideas — thank you so much!! Yes, the box I found had NO label… obviously not a good idea.
Thanks for stopping by!

Every single closet in my house is in desperate need of being “tackled.” I blogged about the only one I wasn’t totally ashamed to post a picture of!
