Tackle It Tuesday

Our basement is unfinished. Which means it has become the place to throw and store anything and everything.

This is one thing that has been on my to-do list for months… one that I’m almost afraid to tackle – to the point where I think it might be best to hire someone to help me organize this space! You’ll see why:


Did I frighten you? I’m overwhelmed just looking at this photo. See the crutches on the top left? Those were used when I sprained my foot. Oh, and the bassinet in the front? My last child was born five years ago. Pack rat much?

So I decided to tackle the basement – little by little – last week. I’d like to have some extra room to put a television downstairs so the kids can play their video games without driving me crazy upstairs. But I have to clear some space first and get organized!

I’m not extremely organized, I’ll be the first to admit. I wish I could be colour-coded and have everything labelled perfectly. But I’m just not that savvy! I try to maintain some sort of order in my house but with two rambunctious boys, it’s not long before everything is a big mess once again.

Although I do organize and keep things tidy and “in their place”, the neatness will not last very long… until I organize once again.

So here’s my one and only Organizing for Dummies tip: use a black garbage bag for, yes that’s right – garbage! And clear garbage bags for those items that you want to donate. Yes it’s that simple!

I have, for the most part, organized the bags into piles – who wants to guess how long it will take before the items are donated and thrown out?

    So upset, I should have posted a picture of all the clothe and boxes we donated to #sandy but the piles of clothes, furniture and toys, it took over my entire house. Every single floor from the basement until the 2nd floor had piles and piles of winter clothes. I felt like a hoarder. I love the way our closets look now thought LOL … I feel so much better. It was hard parting with the baby’s clothing, I got chocked up but I knew it was going to a great family <3

    What were you doing taking pictures of my basement…. I know exactly how you feel, and I need (hubby needs) to get ours all cleaned up!

    Maria. Great start to the process, my advice to you is put the donation bags in your car NOW. That way they will be a constant reminder of where they need to go. Good luck.

    With Christmas around the corner the donate bag shouldn’t take long. Those toys look like their in good shape. I donate a lot of things to the battered womans shelter.
